Fashion Friday

Happy 1st of June! “Rabbits” – as we say here, on the first day of a new month. It’s meant to bring good luck, we don’t just love rabbits. Although bunnies are cute. Anyway…
As my first official blog post, a hereby crown this post a Royal “Fashion Friday”. I will now post a fashion post every Friday with my favourite weekly picks and this week, I’ll be following the Diamond Jubilee theme. Hopefully this will give you some suggestions in showing your patriotism in a trendy yet thoroughly proud way, revealing my top five hot picks for a right Royal Jubilee weekend.

My first pick is this wonderful union jack satchell from LYDC. I actually saw these in person whilst on a recent shopping trip and fell in love with them, the colours are far more vibrant in the real. Although LYDC’s designs can be a little on the chavtastic side of questionable, I am a flag handbag enthusiast. I have already owned a couple of union jack handbags for about five years and I will forever cherish them for their ability to brighten up any outfit in an understated way. Retailing at around £35, these bags are bunting for your body!
Emmulate grace in this beautiful Royal Blue Ileana dress from Missguided. Wear the monarch’s colours in style by making the most of the current hype surrounding asymetric (or, as the peasants often call them, “mulltet”) hemlines. This limbo between a mini and maxi dress provides you with the ideal midi length, enough to ooze royality without sacrifising the best of British chic. This sheer dress leaves enough to the imagination, enabling it to be dressed up or down, whilst also supplying suiters with a healthy dose of leg-envy. A dress Kate Middleton herself would be proud of.
Wear your own crown jewels around your crown jewels (oh-err, ma’am) in these Jonathan Aston Union Jack Crown Tights. At only £15, these stockings are a small price to pay for having our own piece of British historical jewellry on your right Royal legs. Ever a fan of patterned tights, I’d pair these with block colour pieces to exentuate the crown patterns without looking like a raving Royalist. Your legs can have their own celebration in these 95% Polyamide,5% Elastane tights. The opaque black canvas allows for party in the patterns, business in the background.

I’m not usually one for Tshirts or Vest tops (more of a shirt gal, myself), but this hand-printed design from The Orphan’s Arms is perfect for any queen-in-the-making. As its hand-stamped in the UK, this vest is ideal for any budding fashion princesses, especially those who favour fine creative detail alongside laid-back chic. The Orphan’s Arms is a little patriotic peice of Britain itself, with the company’s heritage being located in East London’s Brick Lane Market and referenced by literature, history and Romantic ideals. If you want to do the Jubilee trend without the bright primary colours, garish prints and sometimes over-done icons, this piece is for you.

My last favourite union jack fashion items are these utterly majestic skinny jeans from Religion. Although a little pricey at £65, I think that paying that little bit extra will help to secure you safely in the circle of sophistication. It appears that union jack leggings are all over the highstreet at the moment, mostly of the garish, imitation spandex variety. One does not want to look like one’s jester. This jeans will save you from a royal fashion faux pas through providing a healthy dose of British pride in a slightly faded, slightly worn denim way.
