>As much as you all know how much I love Manchester – and how proud I am to be a Northerner – I end up visiting London often for work and now my sister lives down there, I am hoping to visit more often. And, right now, London is calling. As much as I love Manchester, I can’t deny that the buzz and the bustle of the big city are exciting and inspiring. There are so many things to do and see, and never enough time to fit it all in. Fortunately, London is a city that doesn’t sleep, so if you’ve got the energy, you can really pack a lot into a few short days.
Here are a few of the things you really must make time for on your next break, as well as some tips on using your time well so you can get the best of everything.
There is no place like the West End. There are so many classic, long-running shows to choose from, as well as new and exciting works. Shop ahead of your trip and you will find plenty of cheap London theatre tickets.
Once you’ve picked your show, to complete the experience you really must book a table for a pre-show meal at one of the many great restaurants nestled in the bustling theatre district.
The royal family are obviously a big reason a lot of people from all over the world visit London. History and spectacle can be very appealing.
The changing of the guard is something you really need to plan to see. Weather permitting, it happens every day at 11:30 am outside Buckingham Palace and is free to watch. There’s often a crowd, so get there in plenty of time. While you’re there, maybe take a walk around the beautiful St James’s Park which is nearby.
Camden is like nowhere else. A totally unique shopping experience with an eclectic market with dozens of amazing independent street food stalls as well as vintage and quirky fashion shops galore. Camden has a real arty buzz about it, with so many stalls and shops. It’s really hard to visit and not come away without buying anything.
Walk along Camden High Street and be inspired by some of the most amazing shop fronts in the world. Creativity jumps out at you at every turn as explosive, vibrant artworks jump from walls everywhere.
Once you’ve taken in all that you can; relax around Camden locks. A surprisingly serene space along the canal gives you exactly the kind of break you need before you move onto the next stage of your adventure.
A trip to London would not be complete without a visit to it’s most famous shopping street. With flagship stores from some of the biggest brands, the UK has to offer, shopping until you drop is a definite requirement.
Allow plenty of time on your walk down Oxford Street to get lost Selfridges, where countless designer brands bring you their very best products. The window displays are out of this world and get more imaginative with every season. You’ll find it easy to see why this store has previously been named as the best department store in the world.
London has so much to offer and it is impossible to see it all. You might be worn out when you get home, but you will no doubt be itching to plan your next visit.
