Outfit of the Day: Embellishments

Hey kitty cats – a pretty exciting Outfit of the Day for y’all today! I’m so thrilled to be taking part in Tesco Clothing‘s line, F&F, 7 Days of Summer fashion campaign. As ever, “Summer” is a bit of a stretch for the weather in Manchester – note that it has rained all weekend – but I was delighted to take on today’s theme… Embellishments! Could you guess from my added flower embellishments to the photos?

So kittens, today is the 6th day of the campaign and each day F&F have set a different theme challenge to centre an outfit around, including “Stripes”, “Accessories” and “1960’s”.  Each day they are setting a different style trend for people to get involved in – y’all included! This is all to celebrate the launch of F&F‘s summer collection, so they’re challenging their fans on Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest to step outside their style comfort zone and try out some of the hottest trends this season. Although we’re on our 6th day, there’s still plenty of time to enter today and tomorrow.

Right, lets get into my outfit details! Although the theme was Embellisments, I thought it would be far to easy to take the obvious route and pick some of the already embellished items on the F&F website. I was instantly drawn to the fantastic beading, studding and embroided details on so many items yet I felt this was too much of an easy option, although I have to say I was tempted by the eqsuisite collar detail on this slinky shift dress and the beaut jewel detail on this shirt.

Instead, I decided to embellish an outfit myself and make it pop with little details that linked in together. This just appealed to my personal style so much more and made making a finished look that much more appealing to me! My favourite part of styling looks is noticing the smaller details – the print, the colours, the shapes that all link in together and make a well thought out look…

My outfit started off quite monochrome – quite unusual for me, as y’all know I’m all about the colours, leopard print and vintage florals. However, I really love the sleek and smart-casual vibe of this look which was so simple to achieve. All the main items in this look are from F&F at Tesco, including my new favourite shirt, this polka dot number which I couldn’t believe was only £14! Although these seamfree leggings (also by F&F) were the perfect fit and thick enough not to show any unsightly flesh, I just like to keep myself covered out of habit.  So, as ever, I wore a vest top underneath to protect my modesty; today’s was a cheapy £2 Primark one that was luckily long enough to cover my little kitten tail too!

So, on to the embellishments! Although polka dots could arguably considered embellishments through their bold print, I spiced up the shirt a little and lived up to my personal style by wearing collar tips with it. These retro looking ones are from Primark and are very 1920s-esque, plus the perfect stone silver colour to blend in enough with the monochrome feel yet still stand out as a hardware feature. Also note my geode ring that I picked up when in Brussels on a work trip in December – the perfect statement accessory to embellish a monochrome outfit!

For practicality, I wore a handbag (as ever) and I chose my Lottie Nouveau handbag from Marc B to add to the luxurious feel of the look. It’s absolutely huge so can fit in anything I like, yet as its quilted it really looks so much more expensive than a highstreet bag; it’s just launched as a concession in Topshop this week! For walking out and about, I donned my Vero Moda trench coat from Get The Label – appropriate for the rainy Mancunian weather yet it’s black statement buttons and buckle belt make for the perfect understated yet glam outerwear embellishments.

Now, I bet y’all are wondering about the shoes. Red soles?! I know. Yep. Red soles. Every kitty cats dream! However, instead of splashing out a disgusting amount of cash for the real thing, I popped on these patent peep toe heels from F&F themselves. I really couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw them; they are almost exact dupes of the Christian Louboutin Altadama’s but instead of £550 (eurgh!) they are a bargainous £22! Ridiculous, I know!

As y’all know I love to be matchy matchy, I paired the red soles of my shoes with red lips and red nails all in my favourite and brightest pillarbox shade – a colour embellishment if ever I saw one! For accessories in the general head area (erm, bit weird but lets go with it) I embellished my monochrome look with a touch of classic British class, a cup of tea in either ear! I also added a black bow to my hair to add a little softness to the look. Finally, I wore these amazing Prada Baroque sunglasses from Pretavoir. They are my new fav accessory ever and the damask frame shape adds the perfect embellishment to any monochrome look.

So kittens, if you’d like to take part in the F&F 7 Days of Summer challenge and be in with a chance of winning a £75 voucher each day, head to their blog to find our more about how you can enter. It’s open until the end of tomorrow – good luck!
