UGG Autumn/Winter 2013 Preview
Hey kittens, hope you’re all okay? I know this change in weather is getting to a few people and I’m just getting over the cold weather induced sniffles myself! In fact, one of the best ways to combat against an October cold is to ensure you’re all wrapped up in warm clothes, especially s good pair of winter boots.
So, it was pretty lucky that on my quest to protect myself from puddle-dripped feet that UGG invited me into store to check out their new Autumn/Winter 2013 collection…
As a newbie to UGG, I wasn’t sure what to expect when I popped into their store on Cathedral Street in the centre of Manchester. Located next to two of my favourite stores in town, Harvey Nics and Selfridges, I have to confess I’d never ventured in the shop before. Why? It might have something to do with the classic UGG boot – you know which ones I mean.
I’m not gonna lie, I hate the classic UGG. As comfortable as they look, they’re everything I despise in a shoe – sheepskin, shapeless and shelved in every college kids’ uni wardrobe. However, if you remember my post on the heels UGG brought out for Spring, I was surprised to lesrn they don’t just do “the UGG boot” and that’s why I took the opportunity to go along to the store and investigate this for myself.
When I visited the store, it was closed to the public and I was welcomed with a cup of tea and all the macaroons my heart desired. Bribery? Perhaps, but it worked and put my visit off to a sweet start (geddit? Sweet? Macaroons? Oh, ok).
I was surprised to be greeted with a new collection inspired by Old Orleans with not a sheepskin slipper in sight. There were many variations of the typical winter ankle boot, and I liked it. Think I woven, tasseled and buckled leather. Think dark tan and black, with and without a heel. Most surprisingly, however, I could imagine myself wearing them!
After viewing the winter boots, we went on to less practical but even more pleasing shoes. After viewing some if the loafers, I couldn’t believe they were by UGG. They had animal prints galore and the flats looked to fit perfectly with cigarette style pants and skinny jeans. Dare I say it – I’d love to wear a pair!
After viewing the rest of the store, we eventually got to the classic UGG and yep, they were exactly as I remembered. However, I do get why people buy them – they do look insanely comfortable and there’s no denying they’re one of the most sold (and most imitated) style of shoes in the world. The decision to put these at the back of the store was a very deliberate decision and a clever one, perhaps an effort to lure their regulars away from their go-to shoe?
