Christmas Party Makeup Buys With Cosmetify

Tonight is our work Christmas party (I’m counting down the hours until a nice cold glass of champagne) and in the run up to the big night, as well as planning my outfit, I’ve been trying to decide what to do with my face. Every year I start thinking about whether I might like to try something a bit different (a smoky eye? Extra glitter? A purple lip?), but year after year, I go back to my classic festive party look: gold eyes, a flawless base and a pillar box red lip.

And when I say new, perhaps not necassrily new to me, but a fresh restock of some of my Christmas party favourites. It has been a few years since I’ve done this, and makeup does go off, after all. So, what exactly did I pick up ready for my Christmas party makeup?

A Glowing Complexion

For my base makeup, I always like to go for a bit more coverage than usual when planning a night out. On an every day basis, I really only wear CC cream but for Christmas I like to go full primer, foundation and makeup setting spray to make sure my complexion stays looking ‘flawless’ (well, the best it can!) all night.

Primer wise, I chose the Too Faced Hangover Replenishing Face Primer. Too Faced is known for this primer, perfect for both helping your foundation to apply smoothly and getting it to last longer. It’s paraben free and best if you are looking for a more dewy than matte finish, which is exactly what I was going for with the NARS Sheer Glow Foundation.

I’ve tried many, many foundations during my time as a beauty blogger but I always go back to this one. It gives buildable to high coverage and as the name suggests, gives a nice subtle glow. Perfect for festive parties! Then, to help the base last longer – and add even more of a glow – I finish my complexion with a spritz of the MAC Prep and Prime Fix Spray in Goldlite, which contains pearlescent particles of gold to give a festive finish to your face.

Golden Glittery Eyes

Two things make me think of Christmas party makeup: gold and glitter! So, that’s exactly how I’ll be doing my eyes.

Like my base, I always use a primer on my eyes to help the look last longer if I am planning to go out for a good new hours. MAC are well known for doing the some of the best eye colours in the makeup industry, and despite how many different brands I try, I find their base colours hard to beat. Therefore, I’ll be priming my eyes using the MAC Pro Longwear Paint Pot Eye Shadow in the shade Bare Study, which is the perfect pale nude. This can be worn either on its own for a natural look, or as I am choosing to do, applied before eyeshadow to help it stay put.

For my base eyeshadow, I am going all out with the MAC Pop Dazzleshadow Eyeshadow, which as you can see, is absolutely dazzling. This is the shade ‘I Like To Watch’ and I am sure people will sure be doing that to my eyes when I wear it! Although it contains pretty bold chunks of almost chromatic gold-green glitter, MAC Pop Dazzleshadow Eyeshadow is talc free and ophthalmologist tested, meaning it won’t irritate even the most sensitive of eyes. Bonus.

Then, as if I didn’t have enough glitter, I am going to be lining round my eyes with a slick of my favourite glitter makeup in all the land: Stila The Fourth Dimension Liquid Eyeshadow.

Festive Red Lip

At Christmas, there is really little bet (makeup wise) than a proper, red lip. As we will be both eating and drinking at my Christmas party, I wanted to layer two colours on top of each other for ultimate staying power.

On the base, I’m going for the Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in shade Fiery. I have never known any liquid lipstick to stay put as this Stila one does; it’s food proof, drink proof and even smooch proof. Ooh-eer!

Layered on top, I’m going for my favourite red lipstick of all time. MAC Lipstick in Russian Red. A cult classic, I think I first bought this lipstick around 15 years old and I have had to had a constant supply since. Coloured a deep, blue-toned red, it is the perfect classic shade for helping your teeth look whiter, smile look brighter and compliment any shade of complexion. It is -the- perfect Christmas red lip.
