Some people naturally feel at home in the gym, and that’s great. If you’re not one of them, however, staying consistent with gym workouts will feel like a continued uphill battle. Thankfully, it isn’t the only setting where you can get fit.
When fitness is enjoyable, you’ll see far better long-term results, even if the speed of progress is a little slower. Here are some options you can consider that will keep you away from the treadmill and lateral press.
Skating
If the thought of doing miles on the treadmill or stationary bike without ever seeing anything new fills you with dread, get outside. A pair of rollerblades will cost less than a month’s gym membership and allow you to explore the great outdoors in an exhilarating way. It’s great for cardio and will also help build your core, balance, and leg muscles. Better still, the activity is a great option when looking for something you can enjoy with kids.
Alternatively, cycling and power walking are great options to enjoy cardio on your own terms.
Swimming
When seeking a full-body workout, swimming is undeniably one of the best. While you may not unlock an Olympic swimmer’s body image, their physiques highlight how effective it is. Whether completing a few laps of the local pool or hitting the sea is up to you. Either way, swimming is a particularly engaging exercise. A 30-minute or 60-minute session will pass by in next to no time. Yet, you will certainly know you’ve had a workout.
Even a weekly swim will add some variety to your fitness plan, which is a huge win.
Team Sports
If working out alone leaves you feeling bored, team sports are a great alternative. Aside from providing valuable exercise, there is a social element and a competitive edge to your games. From five-a-side football to netball or doubles tennis, there are many options out there. The key is to find one that you love. If nothing else, your desire to get better over time will encourage you to workout more frequently.
You could also play with different groups throughout the week to keep things fresh.
Group Classes
Group fitness classes are also a great option that will promote social elements and healthy competition. A pair of boxing gloves won’t cost much and can open the door to several combat sports. Alternatively, you may wish to focus on yoga or another form of group exercise. Either way, it provides a structured schedule too. This reduces the risk of skipping sessions.
The fact that you’ll learn new and exciting disciplines is a lot of fun too.
Home Workouts
Finally, home workouts are a great option. Whether it’s a VR fitness game, an online class, or a DVD doesn’t matter. Home workouts remove the feeling of being watched by other gym goers, as well as the commute. When combined with healthy nutrition, it’ll lay the foundation for improving your health at home. Even when you only have a few minutes to spare, some exercise is better than no exercise.
You’ll also be able to play your music or enjoy the comfort of your home. Win.
