8 Tips For the Ultimate Luxury Bathroom Suite

For the past year I’ve been desperately trying to get a new bathroom! It’s been the last ‘house job’ on my list since I moved in 4 years ago and being in lockdown has made it all the more clear to me that it’s so important to be comfortable at home.

If you love the idea of a spa-like experience at home, then it’s worth renovating the bathroom. It’s also worth making it something special, so every part of your life can be steeped in luxury.

Plan Ahead

Yes, before your beautiful bathroom can become a reality, you do have to do some planning. After all, the cheapest spruced-up bathroom is far more functional than a half-finished luxury refurbishment.

The two most important things to figure out are the budget and the extent of your planned renovation. These two factors influence each other as well, as a complete bathroom replacement is almost certainly going to be more expensive than a lick of paint and some elbow grease.

Every other decision depends on these factors, so once you have them squared away, you can move on to getting things done.

Professional or DIY?

Once you have a budget in mind, along with an idea of the extent of your bathroom renovation, you can decide whether to hire a professional to do the work or not. Either option has merit and the best decision depends entirely on what you’ve planned and your circumstances.

So, why hire a professional? If your budget is high and you’re planning on doing a lot of work on your bathroom, then you should hire a professional. Even if your budget is lower, it might work out cheaper to hire a contractor for a bigger job, as any mistakes will be incredibly costly down the line. There’s nothing more upsetting than discovering that your brand new bathroom has caused an expensive and destructive flood because of an avoidable error.

However, if you’re only planning on sprucing things up a bit and you’re able to spare the time, then it might be worth going down the DIY route. This can also be the cheaper option, as long as you’re confident that you can successfully polish up the bathroom.

If you do decide to go with a professional contractor, make sure that you go with one that you trust, and keep the lines of communication wide open.

Have a Theme

So, now that you’ve got all of the planning out of the way, you can figure out the most fun stuff. Selecting what kind of bathroom you want is an entirely personal choice, depending on your preferences. However, a little bit of inspiration is always nice.

There are so many ways to create your own spa-like haven, but keeping to a set theme will make sure you have the best result. If you’re lucky enough to enjoy some original or unique features in your bathroom, then don’t squander them. Integrate them into your design and make something truly special.

The theme will determine the primary color of your bathroom walls, as well as the general style choices that you’ve made. If you’re doing a complete rebuild, then the theme can include fixtures, tiling, flooring, and anything else you can think of. However, you can do a lot with a smaller job as well, like touching up the paint and updating some of the decoration.

Some themes also work with certain budgets. For example, an extravagant marble-based theme might be more attainable if you have the matching budget. However, lower-budget designs can work incredibly well, including simple minimalist designs or a rustic country theme. Essentially, be imaginative and go with something that speaks to you and works with your budget and intended workload.

Make a Statement

Just because you have a harmonious theme, your bathroom doesn’t have to be boring. After all, if you’re going to renovate something, you need to make a statement. It doesn’t have to be something huge or expensive, but it should have your stamp on it.

One easy way to make your bathroom more interesting is to include a feature wall. A daring option is to wallpaper one of the walls, preferably with a bold design. If you do go with this choice, then be sure to wallpaper an area that won’t come into contact with too much water or steam. This choice might work better with larger bathrooms.

You can also create a statement with a signature item, such as a mirror or towel rack. Every bathroom tends to have these auxiliary items, so you might as well make them interesting. After all, why not have form as well as function?

If you’re short on funds, careful vintage buying may secure you a statement piece without breaking the bank.

Splash Out on Fixtures

If you do decide to go for a full refurbishment, then splashing out on fixtures can be a fantastic way to make sure your bathroom spa experience is as luxurious as possible. If you’re going to focus on anything, a stone resin bath can make a fantastic centerpiece.

A stone resin bath is made from real stones that have been crushed up and bound together by a combination of a polymer resin and natural minerals. The end product is then coated with a finish. The great thing about stone resin is that you get all the benefits of both materials.

The benefits of the stone are self-explanatory, as it feels fantastic and different stones can be used for different results. The polymer resin is completely nonporous, so the stone won’t be discolored or damaged by the water. It also protects against mold, breakage, and scratches. Stone resin is also more affordable some of the equivalent, as well as being practical, long-lasting, and easy to care for.

Inject Some Luxury

Remember, you’re going for a luxurious suite here. So, if your budget allows, consider injecting an extra touch of luxury into your bathroom. A great way to achieve this is with heated underflooring, especially if you’re replacing the floors anyway.

Heated underflooring will truly give you that spa feel. Afterall, nobody enjoys getting out of a warm bath only to discover a cold, hard floor underneath their feet. But a warm floor can make every step an new luxury.

Involve Plenty of Plantlife

A cheaper way to achieve the spa experience is to include plenty of greenery. Ferns and similar leaf-forward plants are easy to look after and can transport you to a humid rainforest, for very little money.

Touches like this are a great thing to include in any bathroom refurbishment, whether it’s a minor update or a complete replacement.

Finishing Touches

You should never forget the finishing touches that deliver plenty of character for very little cost. Investing in suitable towels, light fixtures, and even soap holders is a wonderful way to make things just that bit more special. Again, this can transform a bathroom even if you’re on a budget.

Also, don’t forget decorative touches either. As long as they go with your chosen theme, wall hangings and ornaments ensure that the bathroom suite doesn’t feel unfinished. Remember that no bath is complete without some scented candles nearby. Pick a scent that you enjoy and, if possible, matches the feel of your suite.

Finally, you can soak in luxury and enjoy the spa experience without even having to leave the house.
