Do you pat your pockets before you go outside the house? Do you comb your hair using the glass in your front door just before you leave for work? Do you take a selfie to check your skin just before you go outside on a date? The hallway is used for last minute and sometimes last second touches of our appearance. We also make sure we have all the things we need such as car keys, wallet, phone, pens, tissues and just about anything else important to us.
But we never really take the hallway seriously when it comes to interior design. It’s just an afterthought just like most of the things we perceive we use it for. If you want a hallway that isn’t just for show and has practical uses, then consider these following steps to improving your interior style.
In the kitchen you have a large island. It’s right in the middle of the room, with a sink, countertop, knife rack and lights. It’s where you prepare most of your meals and you’re never too far from anything you need to use. So for your hallway you need a small island. These sorts of contemporary console tables are exactly the fit that a hallway needs. They’re not too large or heavy, they can be easily moved and they’re also designed to make a statement. With brass and stainless steel legs, these tables can have wood or glass as their surface. If you don’t want to store anything close by like a notepad or contact book then you can have the Stellar White Marble console table. If you desire a little storage space, then the Toshi console table is the one for you.
We all check ourselves in the mirror just before we leave to make sure there’s no food stuck in our teeth, we have our hair the way we want it and adjust our clothing if need be. It’s pretty annoying when you have to lean forward or try to look at yourself in a small mirror from an angle. Instead a full body view mirror is the right way to go. The large vertical wall mirror is able to give you a wide view of everything. They can be simple rectangles, ovals or unique ornate traditional mirrors that you can have styles by craftsman. Easily one of the biggest statements you can make in the hallway, these mirrors allow you to check everything about yourself with just a glace. Fitting LED lights around the mirror would also be great for when you’re heading out for a night on the town.
You could have a car key rack nailed on the wall right next to the front door. Or, you can keep it simple by just placing a large flat ceramic bowl on the console table. Easy access to your keys when you’re in a hurry is itself a stress reliever.
Hallways are notorious for being neglected. They don’t get much love and attention but with a few practical additions and changes, they can become more useful to your home.
