The fashion show itself is put on by a range of local schools from the Manchester area, including sixth forms and colleges such as Xaverian, Stockport Grammar School, Manchester Enterprise Academy and many more; it was pretty cool to see so many different students from so many different backgrounds taking part in such a large event. Who says the kids these days are all bad?!
Each school had their own segment from a show sponsor (i.e. Knutsford Academy all modelled clothes from Ted Baker) to strut their stuff and shout about the amount they had raised for the charities. In-between, the shows were compared in a friendly and upbeat way featuring strong teenage cancer survivors; it was a really lovely and fun night, without forgetting the real reason we were all there – to raise money for charity.
As well as having an amazing time raising money for charity with the fashion show, I was absolutely over the moon to be given an opportunity which I would never have experienced otherwise – a visit onboard Concorde. Unquestionably, Concorde is a legend within British aviation and technology history; due to it’s elite status and relatively short life, few people got to experience it and I never thought that little old me would be able to either… So when I was ushered on board to try it for myself, in The Queen’s seat no less, I was pretty much speechless.
Runway on the Runway was an incredible night and one of the few fashion events that I will talk about and remember forever – how many other people can say they’ve sat in the Queen’s seat on board one of the six remaining Concrode planes in existance? To have been able to have that story to tell my grandchildren is a pretty big deal, and having done so in the name of charity makes it all that bit sweeter.
Yeah, I guess you could say I was flying at 60,000 feet, too.
