Dude, We’re Getting the Band Back Together: Group Holidays after Lockdown

Many of us these days can’t get away due to lockdown – I mean I was meant to be away right now and that’s been cancelled – and those, like my American readers who are a little more free, cannot afford holidays. We’ve got to find ways to cut our finances, but we’ve also got to make sure that we get that worthwhile holiday experience. This is not an easy feat. This is why so many people are opting for group holidays. While it’s a cheap option for many, group holidays can mean compromises and not doing what you want. But what can you do to get the most out of a group holiday without you all wanting to kill each other at the end of it?

To Share Accommodation Or Not?

This is undoubtedly one of the best ways to cut the costs, but you’ve got to make sure that you are all going somewhere where everybody can get something worthwhile out of the experience. Shared accommodation can be frustrating, especially if one person ends up with the couch, but one of the best ways to bypass this is to pick something like a skiing vacation. There are chalets like Purple Ski in Val d’Isère that can help you soak up a feeling of luxury. When it comes to sharing accommodation, you could either go for something cheap and cheerful but all feel miserable because you’re not sleeping properly or go for something a little bit more luxurious. If you go for something a bit more luxurious, at the very least, you will all feel rested and ready to enjoy each other’s company without being annoyed at someone for snoring in your ear all night!

Picking A Shorter Holiday

This could mean that if you pick a shorter holiday time, you may all squabble with the choice of destination. But choosing a shorter holiday means that you all don’t have to hang around as a group, and you can still get the benefits in a financial sense. Once youpick a short holiday, you all work harder to make it worthwhile for everyone.

Share The Duties Equally

Holidays are the opportunity to have some downtime, but everybody needs a fair share of responsibilities so that everybody can enjoy the experience. Either people will want to exert a lot of authority over the bookings and accommodation, or nobody will want responsibility at all. The best thing to do is for everybody to have a very specific duty. This will make sure that everybody keeps up their end of the bargain.

Plan An Itinerary

While nobody likes to feel bound by a timetable, if you are going on numerous road trips, an itinerary will, at the very least, give everybody an anchor to hang onto. Not everybody wants to go to a maritime museum, and some would rather go to the pub. But if there is an itinerary in place, this means everybody knows what is going on and can choose to step away from the activity. The benefits of spending time away from each other on holiday means that when you come together in the evening, you can all enjoy yourself a lot more! Group holidays work really well when people have the same attitude towards things. This doesn’t mean that you’ve all got to be living out of each other’s pockets the entire time, but if you have a couple of friends that are considering doing the same, you will likely get a lot out of it.
