How to Give More Meaningful Gifts

Giving a gift can be just as good, if not better, than, receiving a gift, especially when you get it just right and the recipient absolutely loves it.

One of the things you can do to make it much more likely that your loved ones will be blown away by the gifts you give them is to take some time to pick out gifts that are more meaningful to them.

If this is something you are not very good at, don’t worry because I have put together a few tips to help you give more meaningful gifts to all of the most important people in your life…

Think about why you are giving the gift

The first step to ensuring you give a more meaningful gift is to think about why you are giving the gift. Obviously, you should think about which occasion you are giving it for whether that be a birthday anniversary or driving test pass, but you should also think about why you feel the need to give a gift.

Are you giving a gift because this person has always been there for you? Because they always make you smile? Because you love them more than words can say? Once you know your why, it’s a lot easier to think about ways to infuse meaning into the gifts you choose based on both the occasion and the sentiment you want to convey.

Stop giving stuff

Obviously, there are occasions when giving stuff makes sense, but quite often, if you want to give someone a truly meaningful gift, it is better to give them an experience. I mean most of us will remember that time we went up in a hot air balloon or took the ferry to France with our grandma long after we’ve forgotten those elephant ornaments or that new video game, no matter how much we appreciated that stuff at the time.

Not only that, but experiences are things we can do together. You can make your gift more meaningful by being there to share the experience, whether it is a concert of the recipient’s favourite band or learning how to throw a pot in an art class, with the person you care about, and that makes it all the more meaningful.

Obviously, you need to make sure that your choice of gift experience is something they will love. There’s no point paying for an F1 experience for someone who cares very little about cars or a hot air balloon trip for someone who hates heights, after all. That would be the opposite of meaningful.

Make it personal

Something that will really help to give your gifts more meaning is personalisation. Anyone can go buy a tie off the rack, but if you go to the effort of personalising it with s monogram and an important date it will immediately become more meaningful. So, whether it’s private plates for the new driver in your life, an engraved rattle for the new baby or a birthstone for the new love, see what you can do to make the perfect gift more personal and it will immediately be imbued with more meaning than it was before.

Talk to them

If you are really struggling to think of a meaningful gift that they will love, there is absolutely nothing wrong with talking to the intended recipient. Check-in on them to see how they are doing and try to find out if anything new is happening in their life, perhaps a new hobby or a DIY project, that you can link a gift to, or whether they are going anywhere exciting on holiday so you can buy them something relating to that, or well a million other things that you could link a gift to that is more likely to be appreciated and definitely much more likely to show them that you have been listening to them and that you value them enough to really think about what they would like right now.

When you take the time to truly listen to someone, giving them the right gift is always going to be a heck of a lot easier than if you try to buy the right thing blindly with little research on your part at all.

Giving more meaningful gifts, as you can see, is not as tricky as it may seem, and by doing so you can ensure that the people who mean the most to you know how important they are and that they get more gifts they truly love. So, what are you waiting for?
