How to Make the Most of the Money You Earn

If you want to look good, you need to invest in yourself. The only way most people can afford to do that is to be cash savvy. Making the best use of the money you earn is a life skill that opens up more options in all areas of your life. If you fritter away most of your cash, when you see a beautiful classic dress, you are less likely to be able to afford to buy it. So, learning to save, invest and spend wisely is a really good idea. Here are my suggestions to help you to be able to do just that.

Get into the habit of saving and investing

Using tools like Wealthifys investment app is a good way to encourage yourself to invest more and monitor your investment accounts and products. Apps like Moneybox can help you to save as you spend.

This app is the equivalent of getting home and emptying your pockets and putting all of your change into a jar. When you buy something, the amount that is taken out of your current account is rounded up to the nearest pound. The shop gets paid what it should, while the balance gets scraped into a savings account. So, if you buy something for £4.45, 55p gets automatically saved for you. It is surprising how quickly your savings build when you use an app like this.

Keep track of where your money goes

It is also worth downloading and using a money management app. For UK users, Yolt is a potentially good option. You can read about it and 4 other money management and budgeting apps, here.

Learn to spend wisely

Resisting the temptation to fritter away your money is important. Before you buy that expensive new belt, stop and ask yourself how much use you are likely to actually get out of it. If you cannot think of at least three outfits you could wear it with it is probably best not to buy it.

You can still look stylish and well-groomed even if you do not own lots of clothes. Most women can manage perfectly well with just 30 or 40 items of clothing. So get into the habit of maintaining a capsule wardrobe.  Shopping in this way takes a bit of practice. But, once you get used to doing it you will not want to shop any other way.

It pushes you to buy well-cut, high-quality items that hang far better than cheap clothes that are only designed to be worn half a dozen times. Dressing in this way makes you think more about your look and it is good for the planet too.

When you are finished with an item try to sell or swap it rather than giving it away immediately. This will also help to keep the amount you spend on clothes under control.

The above are just a few ideas. If you put your mind to it, you will go on to discover even more ways to save enough money to treat yourself to the very best beauty treatments.
