Time-hop reminded me that this week is exactly two years since I moved to Salt Lake City, Utah – and I can’t believe how quickly time flies! This week I also wrote about what you need to consider when moving country, and today, I thought I would take it down a notch and have a chat about what might be useful for a not quite a move, but a long-term trip away.
Some people like to go on trips for a quick break. Other people want to explore the world. If you fall into the latter category, then you probably want more than a 2-week vacation to some sunny holiday resort. Of course, if you want to go on a long trip, then you’ll need to do a lot of planning. So, this article might be able to help you with that. These are some of the things that you need to consider before a long-term trip.
Firstly, you need to do some research to ensure that you have the right documents to spend an extended amount of time in a particular country. The specifics depend on the country that you plan on visiting, of course. If you were to visit the U.S., then you’d need to fill out an ESTA form in advance and wait for approval before you could travel to the country. Perhaps you want to visit China for an extended period of time. If so, then you should check out Evisumservice for the visa you’ll need for a long stay in the country. It’s so important that you do your research before travelling to this nation.
If you plan a 2-week trip, you’ll set aside a budget to ensure that you can afford your holiday. However, when you plan an extended trip for a few months or longer, your savings probably won’t cover all of your costs. At some points, you’ll probably have to find a job to pay for your travels. Of course, there are other options that you could consider. Maybe you could rent out your home to cover your costs of travelling. It’s essential to do budgetary research to ensure that you have a financial plan of action for your extended trip. If you think you’ll need part-time work, then you should start applying for jobs before you’ve even arrived at your destination.
Obviously, this depends on the country that you plan to visit. If you were British and planned on exploring America for a year, then that probably wouldn’t be too much of a culture shock. The language would be the same, and you’d still be able to enjoy a very similar Western lifestyle. Of course, there would still be some noticeable differences between the two countries, and you’ll find that to be the case with whatever destination you end up choosing. So, you need to give this decision some careful consideration. Visiting somewhere different to your native country for a short holiday is fine, but visiting a vastly different place for months can be quite overwhelming. You’ll have to adjust.
That’s why you might want to plan an extended trip to a country that you’ve already visited before. And if the people who are native to that country speak a different language, then you should try to learn as much of that language as possible. You probably won’t become fluent if you only spend a little bit of time learning that language, but you’ll be able to show the locals that you’ve been courteous enough to put some effort into trying to learn.
