I admit it: I’ve never had French Food in Manchester before. I’m not sure why, there seems to be so many different types of cuisine, so perhaps I’ve just never got around to trying French. To break my French food virginity, I was invited along to try out the new Winter Menu at Cafe Rouge Manchester Trafford Centre. In fact, and it was my first time trying Cafe Rouge, too!
To start, we were welcomed with some drinks. We went for a bottle of Savoignon Blanc and a non alcoholic mocktail. The wine was just as I liked and the mocktail was off the new winter menu; it was a citrus non-alcoholic martini and was super refreshing. Over our drinks we shared a serving of bread nibbles from the new Cafe Rouge winter menu. We had the new Plateau De Pain which contained chargrilled sourdough bread, wedge of rye and caraway bread and French baguette with d’Isigny butter. It was just right for us to share.
For starters we did want to try the new Salmon Rillettes (a new addition to the Winter Menu) but unfortunately these were sold out. Hey, I guess it shows what a popular choice they are! Instead we got out seafood fix from the Crevettes; king prawns in garlic & smoked chilli butter with baguette. To go alongside we also had the warm breaded Camembert with cranberry & redcurrant sauce – this is one of my favourite starters and it didn’t disappoint.
