If you have just moved into your forever home then you will want to put your own personal stamp on it. This can be tricky and can take a lot of brainwork to decide what will go where. It may be a good idea to write down or draw your ideas to get them down on paper, then go from there. The good thing is if you don’t stick anything down then things can be moved as and when needed until you have everything just right.
First of all, you could think about how to accessorise the rooms in your home. You can make use of all the space you have available. If you have a small room or you want to make a room appear bigger then placing a mirror on the wall opposite the doorway will give this effect. Shelving is also your friend when it comes to arranging the rooms in your home. Not only can it look incredibly stylish and chic but it can be used for a great number of things.
Placing pictures or artwork on the walls can make big empty spaces feel much more homely. You could get your photos printed off and sent to you using various apps, you could then create a collage on the wall. If you want something a little different to the usual 6×4 photos cluttering up your wall then you can use square prints. These give off a much more contemporary feel when on the wall.
Rugs can be your best friend or your biggest enemy. A misplaced rug can look out of place and just strange. However, there are some great rugs out there that can really add to the aesthetic of your rooms. If you have a big living area with hardwood flooring then a rug will make it more appealing and welcoming. It will also prevent the room from feeling colder in the winter as the rug gives traps and gives off heat.
Cushions are another way to make your home cosy and welcoming. Stick them in various places including sofas, chairs, and beds. If you or your guests don’t want to use them then they can be placed elsewhere when not in use. You could even have an ottoman storage unit to store them in.
If you are unsure of the colour scheme in your home then you can change it up to something more suitable. It is fairly straightforward and you can paint over existing paint. It becomes a little more tricky if you currently have wallpaper and want to change it to paint. If this is the case then you will need to strip the old wallpaper off before adding any splashes of colour to those walls.
You could go one step further with your paint job and have a feature wall in your living room for example. This is one wall that is different from the others, meaning it stands out and looks amazing. For ideas on feature walls take a look online.
