When Off-Trend Interior Decor Becomes The Trend

One might say we’re in the midst of a changing of the guard. In the interior design world, the modern utilitarian design has been ruling over us for a decade. We now in a period of transition. Once upon a time, we applauded the calls of interior designers who advised us all that ‘less is more’. It took the fun out of the interiors and made them more industrial. Now, however, we are seeing the off-trend become the new trend. It’s not just in decor, but in design too. Rethinking space, we want walls instead of open floor plans. This gives us back our privacy. We want to inject new vibrant and honest colors back into our walls and fittings. This shields us from blandness. We also want to rediscover leisure space and make homes relaxed again.

Make it more homely

No more sharp straight lines, designed purely to maximise space. The 2020 home will be more homely, a little rough around the edges and more inviting. The farmhouse interior style is one of the top picks to catch this year. Place plants around the home and in the window sills. Bring nature into your home by using fallen seeds and seasonal foliage as decorative pieces on your hallway table. There’s a certain charm you achieve with the farmhouse style because you’re making good use of old wood. Find an aged block of wood and turn it into a chopping board. It will require a little elbow grease to size, shape and smooth it, but it will be so worth it. Large knitwear pieces such as sofa pillow covers would not just keep the heat in the room but feel soft and wholesome. It’s humble yet is quite daringly chic.

Create a haven

As the years have gone by, homes had become more of a showcase of one’s decor taste and styling ability. Unfortunately, this took the life and soul out of the modern home. There should be one space in your home whereby you can come, sit or lie down in utter comfort and read a book in peace. For this to become reality in your home, contact Residential Architects which are design specialists. They have a myriad of case studies, showing how they have either built from the ground up or converted an existing space, into an eclectic haven. Rather than go with a style chosen from an interior design magazine, make your own. Your home, your rules, this is what the trend is in 2020.

Not afraid to be quirky

In 2020, you can stop being the fussy interior person who says ‘does that match?’. If we only choose things that ‘fit’ our interior, we will never really be happy. For your bathroom mat, pick a small Middle-Eastern rug. The gorgeous patterns and dashing red and gold colors would inject so much character into the room. A themed welcome mat is a confident way of expressing your personality. Pick a superhero design, a football team or perhaps just something that pays homage to your pets.

No more trying hard to be the coolest, make your home a relaxing wholesome place to be with the farmhouse style. Make it more homely with a relaxing haven anyone can go to to be by themselves.
