Lazy Sonny Days’ Personal Diamond: Ordering a Diamond from your Pet’s Fur at Heart in Diamond UK

Diamonds are a girl’s best friend, right? Well, mostly. Lazy Sonny Days the pug is my best friend, the love of my life and honestly I believe is my soul mate. So, when Heart in Diamond UK asked me if I would like to create a diamond from Sonny’s fur, I honestly couldn’t think of a more precious way to encapsulate all our love and memories together in a beautiful piece of jewellery that I can wear every day and carry with me everywhere, even when he can’t come with me.

Now, I have to be honest that I have heard rumours of creating diamonds from ashes before, but I had never heard of creating a diamond from your pet or, dare I say, a living being before? Fortunately I haven’t had to consider a memorial diamond for the passing of a loved one yet and so I wasn’t totally sure of the process. I wanted to ensure that before going into this, it would be tasteful and respectful and in my case, a celebration of Sonny and all the happiness he brings to my life every day. There’s more info about having a diamond created from your pet’s hair or ashes here.

So, I took some time to consider and after speaking to David and Anita from Heart in Diamond UK and listening to their heart warming personal stories of getting involved in the industry, I knew that this was the right decision, and ordered my ordering pack. Today, I’m going to talk you through the five key steps it takes for creating your own personalised memorial diamond.

Heart in Diamond UK create memorial diamonds in their lab by recreating the earth’s diamond cultivating conditions. They create a range of different memorial diamonds including personal memorial diamond wedding rings (from couples hair), memorial diamonds from cremated ashes, diamonds to remember special occasions such as the birth of your child and diamonds from pet’s hair or ashes. Their diamonds are not mined and therefore guaranteed conflict-free, which is of course a big ethical concern for me too.  Even though they’re grown in a laboratory, their diamonds are 100% identical to naturally mined diamonds.

Ordering my diamond from Heart in Diamond has been a super easy and stress-free process and has been personal and tailored to me from day 1. My diamond consultant, Anita, has been in constant contact with me through phone, text and email and ensured the process has been totally personalised to Sonny and myself. After becoming involved in Heart in Diamond UK after the passing of her husband, it is clear Anita is very passionate about the business and sensitive to each story. She has guided me through the 5 steps to ordering my Heart in Diamond UK memorial diamond:

1 Select your memorial diamond

There’s a whole range of different cuts and colours to choose from, which is the beauty of having a diamond created especially for you. When ordering, I was supplied with an informative booklet and pack to help me, but Anita’s advice has been invaluable in this an I am happy to follow her lead on this as she is the expert.

2. Select your setting

With over 500 different diamond settings to choose from, you can have your diamond set in almost any type of jeweller you like, including rings, earrings and necklaces. Heart in Diamond UK also also offer a bespoke design jewellery service with step by step personal creation, just in case you have something specific in mind.

3. Send your loved one’s (family member’s, relative’s, friend’s, or pet’s) hair or ashes

For me, I took a few weeks and groomed Sonny every day and simply gathered his excess fur from the brush and collected it in a packet provided. This way I didn’t have to snip off any fur (although it wouldn’t have bothered him at all), and I took a few weeks to gently collect around half a cup of fur. Before I sent off the packet and order form I added in some of my hair that I brushed out too, so Sonny and I can have our diamond created together.

4. Leave the lab to create the diamond

Once sent off, the Heart in Diamond lab then extracts carbon from the sample, which in turn is created into diamonds. I have received personalised emails from the moment my sample was received to keep me up to date on the process which has been lovely and I am sure that when sending off the ashes of a loved one, it is a very comforting thing to know that the ashes are being looked after.

5. Receive your personal diamond

I haven’t had mine yet but I will keep you updated! Depending on the colour you choose, our approximate delivery of the cremation diamonds is 70 — 120 days. In the personal diamond industry, this is the guaranteed fastest production time available as Heart in Diamond are the only personal diamond company that owns their own production facility.

My experience of Heart in Diamond UK has so far been nothing but positive. It is clear that the company is based on compassion for cherishing and celebrating memories and I have been overwhelmed with the enthusiasm from David and Anita about creating a ‘happy’ diamond to celebrate Sonny and I’s partnership. Everyone who knows me knows how obsessed I am with my little baby puglet and now I am so excited to be able to carry around a piece of us, fused together in a beautiful diamond, wherever I go, forever.

Now, I am looking forward to recieving my diamond and I will keep you all up to date with the progress – I can’t wait to see the special item and finally have it in my hands (and Sonny’s paws!).
