Hey kittens, today’s blog post is very appropriately themed for LilyKitten.com – just check out this beautiful packaging! It doesn’t take a genius to work out why I love the packaging of the Shu Uemura Shupette Karl Lagerfeld collection so much, and Lord knows I am sucker for the pretty things in life. So, when I got my paws on the Karl Lagerfield Shupette Cushion Cheek Blusher* and the Karl Lagerfield for Shupette Eye-Need-Shu Trio of eyeshadows*, I was beyond excited to see how one of the world’s most renown fashion designers would put his print on such a classic beauty brand.
The Shupette Eye-Need-You eyeshadow trio* is a small eyeshadow palette containing three (duh) ice-cream coloured shadows. This is a pretty small palette for £30, so I would say it is definitely on the pricey side for what it is (and the practicality of the colours e.g. not very!). However, it is the perfect size for travelling and popping in your makeup bag for a night out, so if you are into the finer things in life and don’t mind risking a £10-each-colour-palette being slipped into your clutch bag for a big night out, then I would say go for it. Aside from anything else, this item just looks SO pretty, and I guess this is where the price comes from.
Similarly, the Shupette Silk Cushion Cheek blusher* is pretty expensive for it’s size (both of these products are smaller than your average) but again, you really are paying for the packaging and the Karl Lagerfield name. Heck, who wouldn’t want a bit of chanel on their face? This cream blusher will set you back £22; still not totally affordable, but when compared to MAC this is a better price for a blush. Personally, this blusher is the wrong colour for me and so I will sadly have to give it away – mine is in the shade Beige and I would recommend this for darker, yellow-toned skin shades as it certainly doesn’t flatter my pink-toned, super pale complexion. However, that is no fault of the product itself, and I think with such an unusual consistency to the blusher, I would have had a much nicer experience if I had tried the Silk Cushion Cheek in Pink.
Over all, I would personally class these products as collector’s items, rather than practical makeup items for daily use. If you are into high street makeup products, the Shupette Karl Lagerfield collection isn’t for you. By nature, Shu Uemura is a luxury brand and so you will be paying more for their items, let alone with Chanel’s head designer contributing to the collection. But, if that is what you’re into, go for it – I think these are beautiful little cosmetics, perfect for picking up a dull dressing table.
