If you’re looking for somewhere for a special occassion dinner in Salford, Pier 8 at The Lowry, Salford Quays is the one. Located within the beautiful modern building of The Lowry theatre and art gallery, Pier 8 is a premium bar and restaurant that is housed right to the side of the main theatre. With it’s own entrance (complete with a red carpet), it has a beautiful view out over the canals of Salford Quays, the perfect vantage point for seeing the water at night and the industrial bridges lit up in rainbow colours. It’s the perfect location for a fancy dinner after work in Media City, or if you’re looking for a pre-dinner meal of course!
The restaurant is an excellent addition to Media City and comes with a three course menu with modern takes on classic dinners. (Excuse the fewer pictures here – I will update when I back home from Utah as I think some got lost on my travels!). To start I had the Parsnip soup which was served with parsnip crisp, roast chestnuts, crème fraîche, soda bread, butter (v) £6. It was some of the most delicious, creamy soup I have ever had and was so filling I had to leave a little space for my main!
My plus one chose to have the Pressed confit chicken & duck, lentil dressing, warm rye crumb, mushroom ketchup (£7) as she loved duck. This did not disappoint! As you could see it was presented beautifully and tasted just as good as it looked. In fact, the presentation of all the food at The Lowry was truly excellent and the service was fantastic, too.
For our main courses, we truly indulged. (Pictures coming soon!). I went for the 8oz rib eye steak, garlic butter, fat chips, grilled tomato (£24) – it was a reasonable price for a proper steak dinner and the steak was beautifully tender and cooked to perfection. It was delicious and I can highly recommend this if you are looking for a good place to have a steak – you will be missing out if you don’t try it!
My guest chose to eat the Pan fried duck breast, Boulangère potatoes, blackberries, celeriac purée, chilli jam (£19) and totally relished every second of it. She thanked me many times for taking her as a plus one which she didn’t have to do(!) and even texted me after saying it was one of the best meals she has had in a long, long time.
Honestly, Pier 8 Restaurant and Bar at The Lowry, Salford Quays, is a fantastic place for a high end dinner and I could not recommend it enough. Next time I visit The Lowry to see a musical or a play, I will be sure to rock up early to make the most of the delicious food offering. It is totally worth getting there early for!
