Titanic the Musical at The Lowry Theatre, Salford
If you’ve been following me for a while, you will know I am a huge fan of all things nautical. Having been on three
cruises myself, I love the glamour and glitz of sailing the seven seas, however as we know all too well, there is also a darker side to the story of the most famous ship in history: the Titanic.
On Tuesday, I popped along to the press night of Titanic the Musical at The Lowry Theatre at Salford Quays, to watch one of the most highly anticipated musicals this year.
Titanic the Musical has been docked at The Lowry from the 7th – 12th May, directed by Thom Southerland. Starring 25 actors with a variety of different accents and ages from across the UK, it is the musical’s maiden tour – telling the fateful tell of the miaden voyage of the Titanic itself in 1912.
The musical tells the story of the real lives of the passengers on board the Titanic, of which 1,517 men, women and children lost their lives. Split across three main love stories of couples in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd classes, it also talks about social prejudices and the differing experiences of those on board the ship.
Of course, we all know how the story of the Titanic ends, and in Titanic the Musical it is told realistically with as many facts and figures as possible. This is not like the romanticised film, this is based on real life stories, real life people and at times is almost harrowing.
Don’t go in to this production thinking it will be the story of Jack and Rose – the haunting performances telling the stories of the spirits on board the Titanic are sure to stay with you for a long while…
