Champion the UK Curl Revolution: Curly Hair Care with Only Curls

If you’ve seen any pictures of my hair at all (and surely if you’ve made it this far, you will have), you will know that I am a full on advocate for embracing naturally curly hair. Sure, if you choose to straighten yours, that’s cool too, but I like to think of myself as a champion of curly hair and over the years I’ve loved trying and testing various different products targeted for curls. Most recently I’ve been trying out new British brand, Only Curls, who well, create products only for curly girls! They market themselves as champions of the UK Curl revolution, so of course, I couldn’t resist putting them to the test. Incidentally, all of their products in this blog post cost £16 each, which makes pricing up pretty easy to remember, and are all 100% Vegan and made in the UK, which I personally find pretty important when looking for a new brand to try.

Of course, the first step in any curly hair care routine is to wash it, so I went in with the Only Curls All Curl Cleanser and Only Curls All Curl Conditioner. Both of these contains lashings of Avocado and Kukui Oils which aim to naturally moisturise the hair and scalp, which in turn then helps to reduce frizz by keeping the curls clean and hydrating. The shampoo I sulphate free, which – if you are curl connoisseur – you will know is pretty important for ensuring the hair isn’t stripped of it’s natural oils and washed to harshly.

Both of these items were a pleasure to use, especially the conditioner which I can be fussy with as I like them to physically feel my hair being smoother and hydrated when I was it out.

Although I don’t usually use gels in my hair as I tend to find they often make my hair stiff (and sometimes crunchy!), I decided to give the Only Curls Enhancing Curl Gel as it recommends using it alongside their cream (and creams I do usually use). I took a healthy dollop of this in the palm of my hand – I never listen to the ‘pea size’ recommendations as I find my hair is too thick and can be unruly if I don’t use enough product – and scrunched it into my hair, concentrating mostly on the ends. I used this before the Curl Cream and so I can’t say for sure if I would like this product on its own, but the next day (after sleeping on damp hair) I woke up with lovely soft feeling hair, and no crunchiness in site!

Once I had scrunched the gel into my hair, I took two splodges of the Only Curls Hydrating Curl Cream, working this through all of my hair from about two inches from the root right to the very ends. I applied his using my hands and running my fingers through my hair to comb it gently through without pulling on the curls. Including hydrating ingredients such as Shea Butter, Marula Oil and Aloe, this cream aims to naturally replenish moisture and restore curls back to their natural curl pattern. And you know what? That’s just what it did. Used in combination with the cleanser, conditioner and gel, it helped to create soft, natural looking curls that weren’t weighed down with product or feeling stiff.

Over all, I am really enjoying trying out my Only Curls products and would definitely recommend trying them if you are in the market for a new high street curly hair product. If I had to recommend just one product to try, it would be the Hydrating Curl Cream. At £16, you get a pretty big tub of this and depending on how much hair you have, this could last you a good few months.
