Instagram-Worthy Afternoon Tea at Sunset: Australasia, Spinningfields Manchester
Hailed as the new most instagrammable location in Manchester, Sunset by Australasia is a beautiful heaven of millennial pink, mid century decor, flower walls and deliciously snappable Insta-worthy afternoon tea. Part of a new terrace area added on to the already luxurious Australasia bar and restaurant in the trendy Spinningfields area of the city centre, it is the perfect location for frozen cocktails and modern sweet treats.
The outdoor terrace area at Sunset is what truly makes it unique. Despite being, well, outdoors in our typically rainy Manchester, it is totally canopied and heated, luxurious Pacific-style surroundings. Designed by award-winning interior designer Michelle Derbeyshire, its no wonder this is being hailed as the ‘most instagrammable place in Manchester’. Complete with an entirely floral wall, brass finishings and Miami style decor, Sunset oozes laid-back Ibizan vibes, located right in the heart of the city.
Australasia is already the must-visit location for sushi dishes in Manchester, and Sunset continues to build on this excellent reputation by serving Japanese inspired exotic afternoon tea and bento boxes. I tried the instagram-worthy afternoon tea which is served in two courses – savoury then sweet – alongside a Frozen Pornstar Martini. The cocktail was as delicious as it looked and the way the ‘main course’ of the afternoon tea was presented just as beautifully. Containing Sushi favourites and served in a stunning Bento box, the two course afternoon tea costs £27.50 per person including a cocktail which works out at pretty good value for a special treat.
The second, sweet course of Sunset’s afternoon tea is a fusion between a traditional afternoon tea and delicious Japanese ‘kakigori’ desserts made using ancient methods with fresh fruits and shaved ice. As well as a traditional scone with jam and cream each, the sweet portion of afternoon tea also includes Kiwi macaroons, chocolate fondants that melt when poured with caramel from a sweet little tea pot and a range of other beautiful tidbits. This too, is presented beautifully in a modern take on a cake stand and is truly perfect for creating Instagram worthy content!
Although each element of the afternoon tea comes served in bite size portions, my guest and I were totally full and couldn’t even manage to finish the second course! At £27.50 this afternoon tea is the perfect treat and located in the most beautiful setting, ideal for cocktails after work with the girls or simply taking your Momma out for a treat. Plus, at the weekends you can be serenaded by Sunset’s in house DJ for an extra element of relaxation. A truly instagrammable location.
