You love your house – it looks great, you spent a lot of time working on it, but now you’re ready to move. You’ve plonked the house on the market, and are ready to look at all the bids. A few weeks pass, and you still haven’t received any interest. A few more months go by, and this time you have had interested parties, but they’ve never gone beyond a viewing phase. For whatever reason, your beautiful house just won’t sell.
Why is this happening? You’d happily keep living in this house, but personal circumstances might force you to move. In which case, you need to sell the home as quickly as possible, without getting ripped off. So, why won’t it sell? If you have to ask yourself this question, then chances are it’s down to something that isn’t glaringly obvious. Here are three possible reasons your house isn’t selling:
Don’t get offended, this isn’t an attack on your personal tastes at all! It’s just that, what might seem normal to you could be pretty strange to other people. You don’t think twice about it, but they might see something in your home and be completely weirded out and put off. For example, what if you have a piece of art on the walls that’s very ‘out there’ and somewhat controversial. You love it, it looks great in your home, but other people might be freaked out. So, consider removing anything that might seem strange to others, then see if your house sells.
You will be stunned at how many times a house doesn’t sell because of something as seemingly insignificant as a tree stump. The fact is, tree stumps take up room in your garden and are incredibly unsightly. They also present safety risks for children, and many buyers can’t be bothered to deal with them. It’s extra work for them to deal with, so they’d rather not buy a house with this problem. Realistically, all you need to do is pay for stump grinding services to remove the stump. Now, your garden looks more attractive, and you can see if more people are interested in your property.
Do you struggle to receive any interest in your property at all? Like, people won’t even contact you for viewing. If that’s the case, it could be due to awful house photos posted online. It’s easy to let your estate agent take pictures and assume they know what they’re doing. So, you don’t bother looking at your listing, trusting that they’ve done a good job. However, if the images are blurry, have poor lighting, or don’t show the full extent of a room, it can be an issue. People don’t even bother enquiring as they think your house is terrible. You need professional photos of the highest quality to sell a home quickly for a lot of money.
It’s advisable to test the last theory first before doing anything else. If your photos are up to scratch, you can then look at addressing the other problems. By undoing these issues, you will be able to sell your home a lot faster – and for more money!
