Tracking Your Pet’s Fitness with Pedigree Tracks App

Pedigree2

On a bad day, there is always Sonny. And trust me, I feel like I’ve had my fair share of them recently. My pug, Sonny, is my angel, my world and the love of my life and without fail will always cheer me up. He is truly the light of my life and he comes first for me, which means I inheriently strive to provide the best care for him I possibly can. He is my baby, after all.

Aside from lots of love and cuddles, I am especially conscious to take care of his health. Heck, I did five years of research before bringing a pug home to ensure I was prepared for what it would bring, but with instances of negative press about the breed I do sometimes come under pressure from non-pug owners who like to put their opinions on me.

For me, Sonny’s health is my absolute priority, and as well as giving him a balanced diet and keeping him well within the perfect weight range (I actually get many compliments from other pug owners on how slim he is!) exercise is part of that.

To help ensure Sonny gets the perfect amount of exercise for him, bearing in mind his size and diet, I like to use the Pedigree Tracks App to, well, keep track. This app has been especially created for optimising your walks with your poochy pal, and works in a really similar way to exercise apps for humans. I mean, Sonny is my baby, so why would I treat him any different than I would myself?!

Pedigree Tracks is super easy to use. It’s totally free to download (whether you are a customer of Pedigree or not) and set up your pet’s profile on there in just a few minutes. Doesn’t Sonny look so handsome on his?! You can simply input your dog’s data to keep track of his diet, exercise and weight in exactly the same way that fitness apps and health trackers work for us non-pooch counterparts. Whether you’re taking your dog for a walk or simply taking part in some indoor rough and tumbles, you simply click ‘go’ to start tracking physical activity and ‘stop’ when you’re chilling out again, right until you reach 100% of your recommended daily activity.

Of course, this app isn’t the be-all and end-all of dog care. In fact, there is a section that allows you to ‘check-up’ on your dog so that if he is looking too porky, or even a little too slim, you can filter through a series of questions to ensure your pet is of a healthy weight. Apparently, 40% of the UK’s dogs are overweight, which means that if you don’t keep a close eye on your pet’s build you definitely should. If things aren’t exactly how they should be, the app advises to visit your vets, which is a great message and something we all should keep in mind if your baby angel isn’t looking or feeling quite himself.

For me, the Pedigree Tracks app has been most useful for monitoring Sonny’s daily walkies. He can be a pretty stubborn pup and although he loves being out and about when he’s actually left the house, the thought of walkies can often leave him lying in bed and pretending he’s too tired to go out; exactly why his nickname is Lazy Sonny Days! In conjunction with a healthy diet, including his favourite slim-line dog treats of carrots, peppers and green beans, it’s a great way to make sure I keep myself motivated in order to motivate him, too!
