SOS, How Do I Lose Weight Before A Party?

Anybody who needs to plan a party and invite guests knows that last-minute preparations are always incredibly stressful. When you know that the typical bride plans her wedding up to 18 months ahead, it’s easy to see how tricky it can be for a host to throw a reception party with only a handful of weeks to get ready. Regardless of whether they’re preparing for a wedding or round birthday celebrations, the fact is the more time hosts have to organise, the better is it for their mental health.

But, hosts are not the only ones who struggle with short-term preps. Indeed, guests too can experience a combination of stress, anxiety and horror when it comes to receiving an invitation. The sooner the party is due to take place, the less time to have to look your best. Ultimately, everybody knows that an official party means pictures. Of course, you don’t want to steal the spotlight to the bride or the birthday child, but you still want to be able to look at the photos on social media without feeling embarrassed.

There’s only one tiny problem. You’re only half-way through your bikini body programme, and you know that you haven’t yet reached your goal. Or maybe you’ve indulged over the Easter break, and you’re not sure you can fit into your favourite fitted dress. Before you start panicking and googling crash diet tips online, there’s one crucial thing you need to know. You can’t lose the extra weight before the party. More important, you don’t want to because it would be unhealthy to create a dramatic calorie loss over a short period. Don’t worry. You can still look and feel good at the party. All you need to do is to know how to cheat to make the most of your natural features!

Give your face a clear structure

What’s your typical makeup routine? If you’re the kind of person who likes to keep it natural and only highlight one feature at a time, such as your eyes or your lips, you might need to up your game to give your face a different look. Check for instance this AVON how to contour and highlight guide to define your jawline and create higher cheekbones, for an instantly slimming effect. If you’re new to contouring, you need to think of it in terms of injecting areas of light and shadow to bring sharper contours. If you’re worried about your round chin affecting your look, for instance, contouring can virtually take pounds off your weight only by drawing lines. One fundamental rule, however, is to be careful when using bright and light-reflecting powder. You’ve probably come across mishaps in celeb magazines, where the white powder is visible under the eyes and around the cheekbones. Blend profusely before going out and always check in natural and artificial light.

Choose a playful cut

Sure, it’s a wedding reception, but who says you have to wear a dress? If you don’t feel comfortable wearing your tight cocktail dress for the dress, you can bring a creative twist by choosing an elegant and flattering trouser suit instead. Indeed, a wide legs and high-waisted suit can not only create a modern silhouette, but it effortlessly hides all the bits and bumps you’re worried about. More importantly, you’ll find that you’re more likely to attract compliments than if you had chosen a dress. A suit is a stylish and playful way of standing out. You can add feminine accessories to build an exciting look, such as adding a floaty blouse, for instance, or using a V-cut top to de-masculinise the ensemble.

Try a new hairstyle that does all the work

You don’t need much to make a difference. The way you style your hair can add unnecessary weight to your face. Full cheeks and round faces can struggle to make a sleek hairstyle work. Instead, celebrity stylist Michael Sparks recommends creating softness around the face to counterbalance a round shape. Keeping body and volume all around the face, you can experiment with wavy looks. If you want to put your hair in a bun, opt for a low bun that looks effortless and lets you frame with face with delicate waves. If you have long hair, you can create a messy side braid that naturally elongates the face. Ultimately, there’s only one golden rule: avoid the sleek bob cut as it’s not going to do anything for you!

Legs that go forever

You can cheat a little by making yourself appear taller. Long legs disturb the natural proportions of your body, which in short means that you’re spreading the extra pounds on a taller frame. If you were going to choose flat shoes, you need to think again! Heels are going to elongate your legs, making you appear visibly slimmer. Nude shoes are a favourite especially because they intentionally blurry the line between the leg and the shoes. It can be tricky to find the right shade for your skin tone, but it’s worth the effort! If you’re wearing a pair of trousers or even a jumpsuit, try to keep your look monochromatic so that there’s no telling where your legs stop. Shoes that cover your ankles and the tops of your feet are perfect for a one-colour silhouette. Pointed shoes will also make your legs look longer, which makes them an ideal choice for midi dresses.

Get rid of water retention quickly

Last, but not least, remember when we said you couldn’t drop the weight rapidly? It isn’t completely true. You can’t melt fat overnight – believe us, we’ve tried! But you can make sure your body keeps looking lean and slim by targeting water retention. Ultimately, we, women, are unlucky when it comes to storing water. Our bodies are more vulnerable due to hormonal changes. But, thankfully, there’s a way around it. Drinking more water throughout the day can help to reduce retention. Additionally, reducing your salt intake and processed meals will also help you to drop up to a dress size in water!

The bottom line is that you should never feel like you have to lose weight to look your best. However, everybody is prone to excesses and indulgence, so that when the warm season comes, we may not feel entirely confident with the way we look. Don’t let this affect you; you can accept your last-minute invitation and feel amazing with these simple tricks.
