As much as I hate hearing it (and admitting it), curly hair is considered to be ‘damaged’ hair in professional haircare terms. Being a curly girly myself, it’s heartbreaking to hear but over time I’ve learnt to accept that it’s not a personal insult, but that textured hair is really considered by the hair dressing world to be damaged due to it’s ability to create and hold a shape. Over the years, I’ve found that using hair care products specifically targeted for ‘repair’, ‘hydration’ and ‘recovery’ work best for my type of curls, and so in my pursuit I have recently been using the Matrix Biolage R.A.W. Recover Haircare Range.
Although I do admit I sometimes mix and match hair care brands and ranges, I do find they tend to work when you use a full set from one range; probably as it ensures the ingredients are complimentary to each other. The Biolage R.A.W. Recover Shampoo contains natural ingredients including yucca and goji berry, helps restore shine to stressed, sensitised hair and leaves it feeling replenished.
I especially love this shampoo for curly hair as it doesn’t contain any sulphates, which is known for stripping curly, thick and coloured hair of the moisture it needs. Mostly, I use it with the Matrix Biolage R.A.W. Recover Conditioner, which contains similar hydrating ingredients and smells divine – doesn’t it just look like a smoothie?!
If my hair is feeling particularly dry or frizzy, I like to use a deep conditioning mask on my hair once a week. For times like this, I pair the Recover Shampoo with the Biolage R.A.W. Re-Hab Mask. Often I apply this when in the bath and I sit back and relax for 5 minutes to let it work it’s magic. This mask is made from 97% natural origins, so I like knowing I can use it safely without exposing my curly hair to any nasties.
