Love them or hate them, your feet are always a step ahead of you. But while winter affords big boots and chunky knit socks, even in Manchester, the summer heat means that you’ll have to expose those toes one way or another.
After the long slog of sleet and snow, your feet will definitely need some loving attention. Fortunately, there are lots of quick fixes and fashion must-haves to help you along the way.
Taking care of your feet during the winter should be a top priority but let’s be fair here, who wants to keep taking their socks off when it’s freezing outside? The reality is that come spring, most of us have some dry skin to deal with.
Treating dry, cracked heels is a marathon, not a sprint, so do be prepared to take some time over the process. Gently file away dry skin, working towards the tickly bit at the centre of your foot and then lavish lotion on your soles each night. Wearing some thin cotton socks over the top will help to lock in the moisture.
Now that your feet are soft and lovely again, it’s time to crack out some jewels to dress them up. While toe rings and anklets may not be in your staple jewelry collection, having a few to choose from will give you variety and allow you to mix and match according to your outfit.
A silver anklet is definitely a good way to add some summer sparkle but it can also draw the eye upwards a little if you are self-conscious about your toes. Wear with cropped jeans or a longer skirt to give an almost flirtatious, if Victorian, sense of seeing something you shouldn’t!
Toe rings are also fun to wear if you want to make your feet pretty but they can be really annoying when they don’t fit perfectly. Adjustable rings are more affordable but can pinch if they are worn for a long period of time. On the other hand, buying a fitted ring might be a bit much for a single summer. Use your judgement on this trend wisely!
Summer is all about finding the right shoes and whether you are hitting the beach or strolling down the canal, you need to have comfy footwear to see you through the day. This year, summer sandals are brightly coloured and easy to wear so grabbing a few pairs is definitely on the agenda.
Smelly shoes is always a big problem in the summer so you should try not to wear the same pair two days running. This gives your shoes a chance to recover and should help you avoid that awkward social faux pas. You might also like to try popping your shoes in the freezer or using baking powder if you’re already starting to worry!
Summer is the best time to let your feet shine and with a little bit of care, everyone can have beautiful feet.
