With the New Year here, it’s time to think about what we’re going to do differently in 2025. After all, it’s an opportunity to expand our horizons and explore new frontiers.
One way to do that is with drinks. With these, you can try new things and explore the benefits of keeping everything fresh. After all, variety is the spice of life.
But what should you be drinking in 2025? Let’s take a look at some non-alcoholic options that may support wellness:
Hibiscus iced tea should be at the top of your list of priorities. It’s made from the flower of the hibiscus plant, first steeped in hot water and then left to cool in the refrigerator with ice. It’s quite bitter, but also has a refreshing, berry-like taste and tartness that keeps you wanting to go back for more.
Hibiscus is beneficial because it lowers blood pressure and activates an important health pathway in the body called AMPK. As such, it’s ideal for pairing with high-fat, high-salt meals that often get consumed over the festive period.
Most hot chocolate is milk/water mixed with cocoa. It’s a delicious drink all by itself, but it is possible to increase the benefits it offers by pairing it with various adaptogens, like fenugreek seed, ashwagandha, and reishi mushroom. These adaptogens help the body better respond to stress, allowing it to deal with the pressures and strains of life better, making you feel relaxed, even when work is out of control or you have to meet strict deadlines.
Just remember to cycle adaptogens. Allowing them to build up too much in your system can undermine the positive effects.
You might also want to try Hip Pop Kombucha and turn it into a delicious “mocktail” with plenty of mint and cucumber spices. People love this drink because it contains beneficial bacteria, a bit like Korean kimchi. The idea is to provide already-biological foods to the stomach to replenish microbe stores worn down by things like Christmas food.
We don’t often think about aloe-based drinks in the West, but they are highly popular elsewhere in the world. People like this herb because of its alleged rejuvenating properties, able to make you feel younger and healthier than you otherwise would.
If you prepare aloe-based drinks, make sure to mix in some honey and lime juice to offset the flavor. These elements can make it even more hydrating and help it get into your system where it can do its beneficial work.
You could also experiment with basil and blueberry smoothies. These combine two relatively strong flavors with almond milk to provide you with a unique experience that’s hard to replicate with anything else.
Don’t worry: you don’t have to add mountains of basil, just enough to give the drink a unique flavor profile.
So there you have it: some of the drinks that are well worth trying as we head into the New Year.
