5 Practical Considerations To Create The Bedroom Of Your Dreams

Bedrooms are all about comfort, but they can’t be comfortable without practicality. Many people forget about the practical aspects of a bedroom when redecorating or designing it. They focus on picking the right bed or selecting the ideal colour scheme. Both are important, but your bedroom will feel less comfortable if it isn’t practical.

That being said, what are some key practical considerations when designing a bedroom?

Some might sound boring, though they impact the general atmosphere and bedroom vibes. These are the main things to think about when remodelling your bedroom to ensure it feels as comfy and cosy as possible:

Layer The Lighting

Ceiling lights should be banned in bedrooms. Okay, that’s a slight exaggeration. They’re just not the best lighting option for a room like this, as they create too much light. That might sound weird, but you want your bedroom to be relaxed and cosy. It shouldn’t feel like you’re under investigation in a police interrogation room!

Therefore, you must follow two lighting rules:

You can choose any dimmable bulb, though smart bulbs are better because you can control them all at once from your phone. A dimmable ceiling light immediately becomes more bearable and is useful in situations when you might need some added brightness, like in the morning or if you work at a desk in your bedroom.

For the rest of the time, layered lighting provides the best source of comfort. When we talk about “layered lighting”, we’re talking about having different sources of subtle light. Bedside lamps combine with candles or LED strip lights hidden behind the headboard. You want to create warmth through the lighting so it makes the room feel cosy instead of being too bold and bright.

Improve Electrical Outlet Positioning

Most bedrooms aren’t designed for practicality. What we mean is that the electrical outlets in a bedroom often go against the practical layout. You’ve got plug sockets in places where you’re unlikely to keep devices, which means you’re connecting extension leads all over your room and cluttering it up.

Improve the positioning of electrical outlets by installing new ones. Figure out the ideal placement by asking these two questions:

You can buy new sockets with USB ports for added practicality from Meteor Electrical that are easy to install anywhere in your bedroom. If you’ve never done anything like this before, then get an electrician to do it for you. They can also remove your old outlets if you want.

Place a socket near your bed so you can plug your phone charger and table lamps into the wall without relying on huge extension cables. If you have two bedside tables and a double bed, then the ideal approach is to have a socket on either side. Then, if you have a TV at the foot of your bed, you will benefit from another socket near it. The same goes for people with desks and computers in their bedrooms – a socket nearby will allow for fewer wires and better cable management.

It’s one of those things you never think about, yet it improves your bedroom’s practicality. Fewer wires and cables running everywhere make the bedroom look much nicer and add to the cosy vibes.

Find Ways To Soundproof Your Room

Soundproofing is easily the main thing people neglect when designing their bedrooms. Be honest, how often have you ever thought about soundproofing? It’s not something that comes to mind naturally, so you forget about it!

Bedrooms should be quiet places free from as much outside noise as possible. Whether this means blocking out noise from elsewhere in your home or reducing the noise you hear from the street outside. You have to find ways to soundproof it – but this doesn’t mean sticking down massive pieces of acoustic foam and turning your room into a recording studio.

Instead, you should utilise these three ideas:

Placing a draft excluder at the base of your door will prevent noise from entering through the crack underneath. Fabric wall hangings add a layer of soundproofing to your walls and are useful for blocking noises from elsewhere in your home, too. Thick curtains do an excellent job of blocking sounds from outside your home, meaning you shouldn’t hear as much noise from the street or road.

Combined, these ideas make your room a quieter place to live and relax. This is especially important if you’re working or trying to sleep.

Create Lots Of Storage Solutions

Is there anything less relaxing than a cluttered bedroom? You’ve got clothes and other things strewn all over the place, making the entire room feel messy and less enjoyable to be in. Approach this in the same way that you’d declutter your home and start getting rid of things you never need or use.

However, the main tip is to create multiple storage areas in your bedroom. Take full advantage of all the space you have – for instance, use drawers or boxes to store things under your bed and free up space in the bedroom. Think about vertical shelving to create storage solutions on the walls, and make sure you have at least one cupboard/wardrobe.

The more places you have to store things, the less clutter you’ll have in your room. It makes it more spacious and gives you a bedroom where you can truly relax.

Learn How To Thermally Insulate

Lastly, keep your bedroom as warm as possible to prevent it from being unlivable in the winter. You don’t need to do anything fancy here – it’s a simple case of using a combination of these ideas:

That’s all you need to do to make a bedroom that retains heat and stays at the right temperature.

Focus on the practical aspects of a bedroom, and the whole place starts coming together. You’ll make a room that feels amazing to live in and create the cosiest vibes out there.
