5 Small Ways To Make Your Bed More Cosy

Want a cosier bed, but don’t want to replace your bed frame or mattress? There are other ways in which you may be able to improve the comfort of your bed that may not cost too much money. Below are just a few cost-effective upgrades to make your bed more comfortable.

Add a headboard

A headboard is useful for providing comfort when sitting up in your bed. This can be useful when reading a book or watching TV in bed. Some beds already have headboards attached, but many don’t. If your bed currently doesn’t have a headboard and you have to sit up against the wall, consider a solution such as one of these Adairs headboards, which can attach to your wall. Padded headboards are often the best for sitting against and could prevent shoulder and back aches.

Consider a mattress topper

If your mattress is a little too hard or a little too soft for your liking, it may be possible to improve the comfort by adding a mattress topper. Mattress toppers are like sheets but they contain a thick padded layer. On top of helping to add comfort, they can also protect your mattress from stains or damage. They’re a lot cheaper than buying a new mattress – you can explore different styles online.

Invest in new sheets

The type of bedsheets you use can have a big impact on your sleep quality too. Bedsheets can be made out of all kinds of materials from bamboo to satin – each with their own pros and cons. The most popular and dynamic bedsheet material is undoubtedly cotton. Not only can cotton be used to make incredibly light and breathable summer bedsheets, but it can also be used to create warm winter flannel bedsheets. Consider buying yourself both types of bedsheets to help you maintain the right temperature.

Explore new pillows/pillowcases

It’s also worth considering your pillows. Start by considering the amount of pillows you need. Most people only need one pillow below their head, although some side-sleepers may benefit from two. Extra pillows can also be used to support other parts of the body such as the back and knees. Pillows can have various different fillings – some of which are softer or thicker than others. Work out which type of pillow you prefer. When it comes to pillowcases, different materials may also have different advantages. For example, silk pillowcases can often stay cooler in summer and can reduce friction to prevent ‘bed hair’ (compare options with this Marie Claire silk pillowcase guide).

Try a new duvet

Finally, you could try a new duvet. Weighted blankets are all the rage nowadays and can provide extra padding to make them feel like a warm hug. Some people may prefer lighter blankets (particularly in summer) – there are many light and breathable options worth looking into. For providing warmth in the summer months, a thick duvet with a flannel cover could be ideal. Consider buying a variety of blankets/duvets so that you always have the perfect option available.
