5 Ways You Can Incorporate Minimalism into Your Bedroom

Minimalism in interior design is a modern phenomenon that almost no good room can go without. You don’t have to go all out and get rid of everything in your room until there’s nothing but a monochrome silhouette of your bed and a cupboard, but adding a few minimalist elements can take things to the next level with little fuss.

The simplicity and clean lines of minimalist furnishings help clean up a room and act as inoffensive additions to your interior that don’t draw all the attention, allowing you to bring the focus where you want it to be. Whether it’s a change in color, the removal of some items or even the addition of certain other items, incorporating a bit of minimalist flair is much easier and more affordable than you think.

Start By Getting Rid Of Clutter

This is pretty much a no-brainer and is usually the first step when incorporating minimalism into any aspect of your life. By removing the things that don’t provide any joy or functionality, you’re making space for those that do. Whether it’s an awful old photo frame, an untouched bedside table or a useless light fixture, if you don’t need it, chuck it.

Upgrading Your Bed

If you want to know just how little of your gigantic rectangular bed you need, take a look at what the Japanese call a bed. A quality mattress covered in neutral-toned bed sheets, some pillows, and one blanket are all you really need. Granted, cold weather may influence some aspects. Check out Sleep Sherpa for an idea of the types of mattresses you can get.

Lighting

Lighting is an important part of any type of room and, contrary to what many think, it doesn’t have to be cold and dull in a minimalist bedroom either. Remove any heavy curtains in exchange for blinds (if they’re necessary) to let in as much natural light as possible. Try to focus on incorporating one artificial light for night time instead of lamps everywhere.

Add Greenery

While adding more items to your room may be the last task on your minimalist to-do list, plants are a worthy exception. If you’ve already gone for a fairly neutral-toned room, a plant will add that much-needed pop of earthy color while also adding texture, not to mention the free natural air filter.

Depending on how big you want to go, there are tons of options. From full-fledged houseplants and hanging baskets to DIY mason jar-dwelling cactuses. Make it your own and give it love as it grows with you.

Keep Some Personal Items

You’re going for a minimalist design, but your home is still your home, so don’t be afraid to keep a part of yourself within it. Curate your favorite mementos and prop them up on a shelf where you can see them and look at the things that make you happy.

Conclusion

There’s a lot more you can do depending on how much minimalism you want to incorporate, but these are great starting points that will work in any home. What have you done to incorporate minimalism in your bedroom?
