Are You Making These Beauty Mistakes?

The largest market in UK’s beauty sector is facial care because many people want to improve their appearance. Subsequently, this created £2.122 billion in the first quarter of 2022. Unfortunately, in the bid to maintain beauty standards, not everyone does things right. For instance, people engage in activities and habits detrimental to their routines, such as the following.

Vigorous scrubbing of the face with a washcloth

First of all, you can achieve a clean face with a mild facial cleanser and your finger pads. And if you opt for a soft washcloth, use it gently. According to dermatologists, facial skin is quite different from the rest of the body. It is softer and prone to damage. It is also why body lotion is usually not recommended for the face. A separate moisturiser specifically formulated for the face may be better. Even with a washcloth, vigorous scrubbing can scratch the skin’s surface. You may not feel the micro-cuts until you cleanse your face with an astringent immediately after washing. Additionally, lukewarm or cool water is best for washing the face.

Shaving your legs before a pedicure

It’s understandable why you may want to shave your legs before a pedicure. Many women hate to have another person see their hairy legs. However, you run a high risk of contracting infections when you shave your legs before the pedicure. Shaving causes micro-abrasions on your skin that can become entry points for bacteria and other microorganisms. This can happen when you soak your legs in the footbath. While the nail technician works on your legs and toes, there is a chance of further injury. You have the option to ask the technician not to cut your cuticles. That’s because trimming them could create tiny cuts that open you up for a skin infection. The last thing you want to happen is to walk away from the beauty salon with an infection.

Entering a swimming pool with dry hair

The water in the swimming pool contains chlorine. Thankfully, many people know that this chemical, when used in the right quantities, helps kill germs in the pool. However, few know about the effects on the hair. The chemical can damage your strands when you swim in a pool without covering your hair or wetting it with clean water beforehand. Believe it or not, wetting your hair first with water helps create a coat on your strands. That way, no damage is done.

After swimming, it is recommended to use after-swim hair shampoo to wash out any chlorine residue. Remember to use a generous amount of hair moisturiser to replace essential oils. Usually, the best option is to cover your hair with an anti-soak fabric for the best protection. Like your natural hair, your extensions can be badly damaged by chlorinated water. While premium hair such as Vixen and Blush Hair extensions can offer some respite, you don’t want to continuously get your extensions wet. This also helps avoid knotting and matting. Hopefully, the next time you go out for a swim, you will cover up your hair to avoid the inconveniences.
