Hey kitty cats, today’s blog post is not an event (gasp!), it’s not even an Outfit of the Day (shock horror!) – nope, it’s a long awaited beauty review of the Lanolips Lip Ointment.
Now, y’all know I’ve done a couple of beauty reviews before – let me remind you of my LilyLolo foundation review and my Balmi lip balm review – but fashion has always been my forte. However, since attending a couple of Benefit Cosmetics events, namely the Glamouriety tour and my Face Date at Harvey Nics, I’ve been wanting to get far more into beauty reviews. And here’s a step in the right direction…
When I do a review, I want it to be worthwhile and I want it to be helpful. Thousands of beauty bloggers will review the big names, tell you all about Mac make-up and swatch the latest YSL lippies, so how helpful would my little opinion be on them? Instead, I’d rather tell you about an item you more than likely haven’t heard of before, and that’s Lanolips.
The official name for this lip gloss is “Lanolips Lip Ointment with Colour SPF 15” – bit of a mouthful, eh? But rest assured, it does what it says on the tin (or, erm, tube) as it contains SPF 15 and is designed to be a moisturising lip balm-esque oil whist also providing a lipgloss like finish. I’ve gotta say, it lives up to all expectations apart from the colour, although I don’t think that’s necessarily a negative. I have it in the colour Dark Honey, which in the tube and on the pictures looks like a very dark mauve colour, with purple-ish undertones. However, on application, it comes off glossy and clear, which is super wearable and gives my lips a lovely high sheen without looking too done up for work.
As I said above, I’ve worn this item daily (applying it several times a day) for over a month and have been delighted with it and it’s earned itself a permanent slot on my desk tidy at work. It is natural enough to be worn during the day time as a lip balm but can be added over lipstick to add a little gloss at night. The main highlight for me is how hydrating this product is – I find myself applying it every couple of hours, not because my lips have dried, but because the feeling is so addictive!
In terms of the packaging, I think the gold lid adds a little feeling of luxury and for a lip gloss, I like to see how much I have left – I can tell this will last me sooo long because despite applying it so often, it has retained it’s shape and only the tiniest, half/pea size is needed at any time. In terms of the tube printing, I’ve gotta be honest and say the sheep logo doesn’t really do it for me; I think there’s a time and a place for animal pictures and on make-up is not one of them!
However, I do understand where they were coming from after researching the brand – the inspiration for Lanolips comes from a sheep farm – bare with me – in South Australia where Lanolips creator Kirsten Carriol spent her childhood. Lanolin (the main ingredient in the Lanolips range) is a natural substance taken from freshly shorn sheep’s wool, and it was in the farm shed that Kirsten loved to spend her summer holidays. Couple that with her DNA Professor father’s passion for using natural ingredients that worked and you have the foundation for Kirsten’s love of lanolin (nature’s wonder moisturiser), and ultimately Lanolips.
As a final note, it is worth saying that this lip balm is 100% cruelty free, which as a vegetarian, is something y’all know I look out for and find hard to find. It’s always a bonus for me when my cosmetics are vegan and natural, as it leaves me looking good and feeling good!
So kittens, have you heard of Lanolips before? Will you be trying them? Leave me a comment below and let me know! And don’t forget to follow me on Twitter, like my Facebook page and subscribe to my Youtube channel to keep up to date with all things fashion!

I only heard of this product last week but wasn't entirely sure if I wanted to try it. Maybe next time I'm in Boots I'll pick it up. :)
This sounds great, something a bit nicer than just an everyday boring lipbalm – I will definitely popping this into my basket next time I'm in boots!
