So, kittens, as we are now officially starting the week of Birmingham International Fashion Week – time for a little update. Who’s getting excited? I know I am!
The start of the year saw the introduction of Birmingham International Fashion Week In Aid
Of UNICEF, the first annual fundraising fashion event held to showcase international, local,
emerging and established talent. Since then there have been many developments for the
ground breaking event including confirmed performers, designers, exhibitors, partners and
sponsors being disclosed. Loads of fun for a good cause – what could be wrong with that, eh?
And this weekend, I shall be reporting on the event, where International designers will be presenting AW13 collections, combining Ready-To-Wear, Emerging and Couture.
Right, kittens, there’s loads to look forward to, but just to name a few top designers… The BHMFW runway showcasing the Couture collections of Lebanese designer Youssef Kamoun, Siberian sister designers Tijana and Mila Popovic and contemporary designer Ricardo Ramos from Germany. Independent British tailors, Clements and Church shall be exhibiting their bespoke gentlemen’s attire, along with London based designer Vestir’s stylish Ready-To-Wear pieces and USA Milliner Karen Morris, who is known for her unique, classic, and elegant styles.
Also making an appearance on the catwalk is Parisian Couture designer Defined Moment, recognised for her unique techniques and materials, Dawnsunflower’s quirky designs from California and Manchester based, Greek designer Sofia Couture, celebrated for her distinctive manipulation of conventional shapes. I’ve personally attended one of Sofia’s runway shows before and after meeting her, I can vouch for what a brilliant designer – and, above all – a lovely ady she is!
Not only that, kitten loves, but BHMFW’s The Exhibition presents exhibitors ranging from jewelers, trend led fashion brandsand Ready-To-Wear designs alongside beauty brands and confectionary. Pass holders will have access to the perfect mother’s day gifts, from charming chocolate creations to enchanting jewels, those attending will be spoilt for choice… I’m gonna have almost no choice but to shop!
For extra entertainment, performers, Times Red will be hitting the stage on both days of the event, with their great energy and amazing harmonies. The boys Scott, Staz and Luke will be performing their brand new single due for release on Monday 11th March.
BHMFW have also announced their 2013 Official Partners and Sponsors. Proud Emerging
Designer Runway Sponsor Day 1 has been confirmed as Coventry University who can also be
found in The Exhibition area and Official After party sponsors, Mechu who will host the
BHMFW 2013 after party for pass holders, media, fashion and industry professionals. Make up London Academy (MLA) who have worked alongside celebrities and the best brands in the beauty industry will be lending their advanced expertise and industry experienced make-up artists as BHMFW’s official backstage make-up partner whilst Birmingham based film production company, Shuut Films, will be covering the event from model castings to backstage action during shows.
