French Food is relatively new to my palette; I’ve always been into international cuisine with a preference for spice but more recently Jonathan has introduced me to the delicacies of France and I’ve become a big fan. So, when Bistrot Pierre opened in the trendy Mancheter (well, Cheshire?) borough of Altrincham I couldn’t wait to pop along to try out Manchester’s answer to my new favourite cuisine. Here’s my Bistrot Pierre, Altrincham French Restaurant Review in celebration of my new found, sophisticated taste buds!
Altrincham is a super up-and-coming suburb of Manchester and having recently discovered ice hockey (yep – you’ll know if you follow me on Instagram) where Manchester’s team play, I’ve been spending many a Saturday night there both pre-and-post games. Whilst Altrincham market is without a doubt a huge highlight of the area and there are some lovely other independent bars, I have found the area seems to lack in sit-down restaurants. It seems like Bistrot Pierre recognised this gap in the market too as when I visited the other Saturday early evening, the place was heaving!
Inside Bistrot Pierre, the staff couldn’t do enough for us and greeted us into the traditionally decorated French restaurant. We selected a bottle of white wine (French of course!) and shared a whole baked Normandy Camembert with sourdough toast and red onion confiture (£9.95). Honestly, you can’t go wrong with cheese and this was no exception! The Camambert was baked deliciously and was the most perfectly indulgent starter to our first try of French cuisine in Altrincham.
For mains, I went for a classic steak. I chose the Pavé de steak (£16.50) which is a 8oz rump steak. Of course, this is apparently best cooked slightly rare but I’m fussy and like it my own way, and although the staff advised the best way they were happy to oblige! Served with pommes frites and green peppercorn and brandy sauce, it was delicious. Meanwhile, Jonathan chose the Confit de Canard (£14.95); a “Les Landes” duck leg confit with a cassoulet of Toulouse sausage, smoked bacon, flageolet beans and plum tomatoes which he told me was wonderful, too!
For dessert, there was a wide selection of different sweets on the À la carte menu but having spied some interesting looking puddings from other customers, I cheekily asked about them. Apparently they were from the lunch menu and consisted of icecream, whipped cream, marshmallows and chocolate sauce. Despite not strictly being on our menu, the staff were happy to let me try one and I am so happy they did, it was delicious!
Over all I was totally impressed with Bistrot Pierre, Altrincham French Restaurant and it is without a doubt the best meal I have ever had in Altrincham. I will definitely be returning pre-ice hockey for special occasions and potentially post-game too for a sophisticated glass of wine. I can’t wait to come back. It was brilliant.
