Living With My Copper Kitchen

When I bought my home, the first room I vowed to renovate was the kitchen. For me, the kitchen is the heart of the home for three main reasons: 1. eating, 2. drinking, 3. socializing. At house parties, everyone seems to end up in the kitchen and so I knew I wanted to tackle this room first. As part of that, the sink is one of the main focal points of the room and so I knew I wanted one that would make an impression, hence my copper sink and tap by Olif design.

Why I chose a copper sink

I chose a copper sink as I knew I wanted my kitchen and dining area to both be copper and marble themed. I love the New York-come-Scandi style that copper portrays – it’s rustic but still looks polished and I adore the industrial feel of it against the black tiles in my kitchen.

As far as I was concerned, a copper finished sink was an absolute must. I had decided on this even before I chose the white and grey marble counter tops as I knew how much it would stand out. You rarely see a sink in a finish other than silver, but luckily for me Olif offer stainless steel sinks in anthracite finish and  offer a range of taps to match their gorgeous Monarch sinks too, so there were plenty of options to choose from.

How I look after my copper sink

Looking after my copper sink is pretty easy. It’s made of stainless steel so it’s super durable and practicle as well as looking stylish. To clean, I simply take an antibacterial spray and wipe over with a cloth. I take care to wipe along in straight lines to avoid any streaks and I usually do this for ease – I am sure you can buy specialist cleaners that will help to make it extra shiny but it looks great to me. I usually do this most evenings after I finish cooking for the day although it’s probably unnecessary.

The installation process

Although the sink looks unusual, installing it worked in just the same way as any other sink. I chose the copper sink basin and copper finish tap separately from Olif and they arrived in the post like your usual online shopping (albeit in a rather large parcel). The parcel was lighter than expected and easy for me to pick up and move myself from the front door into the kitchen.

Now, I am no builder and although I have done my best at my at-home DIY, I had to commission a kitchen fitter to renovate the kitchen. As part of this, he hooked up and fitted the sink and tap for me and he told me it was simple to do and, if I had really wanted to, I might have been able to do it myself. In fact, he also commented on how he had never fitted a copper sink before – not sure he understood my aesthetic tastes!

 Accessorizing my copper sink

As copper and rose gold are so on trend right now, it’s been an absolute dream to accessorize my kitchen with my copper sink as the focal point. Copper kitchen accessories are readily available in most supermarkets now and I even have copper cutlery, pans and tool sets dotted around the kitchen. It’s super easy and affordable to find copper kitchen accessories that give your home that luxury feel.

Aside from how practical my sink is, it looks absolutely beautiful and I am so pleased with how it has helped transform my kitchen. It is such a statement piece and it receives so many compliments from guests, it’s actually a great conversation piece which is exactly what I wanted when choosing a copper themed kitchen.
