When designing your home and certainly when decorating it, you no doubt wish to make sure everything you could ever want to live a happy life is present. So we renovate our kitchens and make sure we have enough worktop space for any additional appliances we may use; we think of the heated towel rack that greets us once leaving the shower, and we also care about where the furniture is placed and the way this greets us in the space.
But the truth is that despite all of that, sometimes, we have to consider what we’re happy to go without, rather than everything we want. You only have so much room to decorate and manage, after all, and so you may not have space or even budget for the huge amount of investments you wish to make.
However, sometimes, it’s easy to think that we need to choose between two outcomes. For example, privacy and natural light can sometimes feel opposed to one another. But should they be? Can you, in a home where other property windows face yours, gain both maximal natural light without subverting your ability to be private and feel comfortable in the space? In this post we’ll discuss how and why we think it is, and how to go about it:
Bifold Blinds
Bifold blinds can be used to provide a fantastic balance between letting natural light in when necessary, and also completely shutting out viewing angles when desired. In addition to this, blackout blinds can be perfect for bedrooms where limited light exposure is key to giving you a good night’s sleep. Because these are easy to operate, and sometimes even remotely operated, you’ll enjoy some wonderful convenience when setting up your room for the day.
Frosted Glass Effects
Frosted glass may seem like an installation you have to put in place ahead of time, and this is often quite popular in bathroom areas. But you don’t actually need to change the glass panel in order to benefit from it. You can buy sheets of faux-frosted glass with a mild adhesive you wet and then pate to your window from insight. This provides the exact same result and it looks excellent; and when you’re done with it, you can easily remove and clean the window as if it were never there before. This is ideal if you’re just using it as a stop-gap measure for the installation of blinds, for instance, or if you’re renting a property.
Skylights
A skylight can be a fantastic means of letting in the most natural light possible, provided you have no floor above your ceiling, obviously. A skylight rarely lets anyone look into the property as a top-down view is hard to get, but you certainly ensure the maximal amount of sunlight, no matter where the sun is in the sky that time of day. This can also provide some comfort to a space via the tip-tap of rainfall should you encounter it, and anyone can appreciate how cosy your living space becomes then.
With this advice, we believe you’ll never have to mediate privacy and light. Have your cake and eat it too!
