Fashion Scout AW15 at London Fashion Week

Street Style Fashion Scout AW15 Day 2 21 Feb 15
It’s Tuesday, but not just any Tuesday. It’s 24th February 2015 which means it is the final day of London Fashion Week, for the Autumn Winer ’15 season. As has become a bit of tradition for me, I spent my weekend in the British capital to experience the highs (and lows!) of having fashhhurn, darhling. This time, I attended Fashion Scout AW15 at Freemasons Hall with sponsors, Vita Coco UK as part of their #CoconutsFor campaign.
(Oh, and before I start, grab yourselves a cuppa and slice of cake – this is gonna be a long’un!)

Arriving at Freemasons Hall is always quite an experience. I’m lucky enough to have attended Fashion Scout 4 times in the past and each time the building is as impressive as the last. It is a huge, old hall situated in the heart of Covent Garden and inside is like a maze – grand, with lots of winding staircases and marble floors. It’s beautiful. And during London Fashion Week it is always filled with equally beautiful people!

Seriously, if you’re having a bad hair day or not sure if you’re outfit is quite on point, Fashion Week is not for you – it’s tough competition and the stakes are high with bloggers, stylists, designers and celebs all vying for their outfits to get street snapped. I was photographed a couple of times, rather painlessly, but I heard tales of bloggers tripping over 6 inch platform heels in front of hoards of paparazzi – not ideal!

Attending on Saturday 21st February 2015, Day 2 of London Fashion Week AW15, the main entrance hall had been converted to house Exhibition Designers, including names such as Nero Wing, Typical Freaks and GF Hawthorne for Fashion Scout AW15 . Many of these are emerging talent and Fashion Scout provides excellent opportunity to get their work noticed.

I loved being able to walk around the exhibition as I wanted – touching and feeling garments that you don’t get all that close to when you see them flying down the runway on a 6ft tall model. Most items weren’t exactly rail-to-wardrobe ready (heck, most were pretty out there), but I loved the creativity and it’s so fun to be able to admire clothes as pieces of artwork, rather than just things what you wear.

Before long it was time to take a seat for my first show of the season, Youjia Jin. This show was running fashionably late (about 45 mins!) but as with Vita Coco, I was swiftly whisked past the growing crowds and into the sponsored seats. I gotta admit, I have been spoilt with Fashion Week in the past and had gotten used to seats on the ‘frow’, but this time I was the back row, so my pictures aren’t quite as good. It was still an amazing experience, though, as many other people were standing and didn’t get seats at all.

The Youjia Jin show was in the upstair’s main hall, which is an absolutely stunning venue. It reminds me of an old bank, with marble flooring and walls, gated wall divides and even a smoke machine to set the scene. Shows here really are an experience, and judging by how packed the room was, everyone else cherishes the chance to attend as well. Thank you, Vita Coco!

Youjia Jin’s collection was inspired by Alice in Wonderland and British Tea Parties, hence the gift of bottled tea and loose tea leaves on every guest’s seat (mine got lost in the chaos of the day, but it looked tasty!). I was expected extravagant colours and OTT dresses, but instead the collection was surprisingly structured. It had a sense of androgeny with a lot of blue and grey tailored pieces. Definitely not what I was expecting, having researched Youjia Jin’s inspirations before hand.

After the show, there was just enough time for a quick Vita Coco refuel! In the press lounge, there was also the usual showing from The Body Shop, who I had previously been invited to Fashion Scout with. They are the make-up sponsors of Fashion Scout, so do bespoke backstage make-up looks for each designer, with Label M looking after the hair. There was also the chance to have The Body Shop makeovers and manicures in the exhibition hall – if you could stomach the wait, queueing in your 6inch fashion week heels!

Fashion Scout AW15 LFW15 Day 2 22nd Feb 15

It was soon time to hustle into the lower main hall for my favourite show of the season – Ones To Watch at Fashion Scout Autumn Winter 2015. When Vita Coco asked me whether there were any shows I was keen on watching, I jumped at the chance for this one. It’s always a fantastic showcase of emerging designers, often showing four or five different collections in one sitting, all from global designers who have won the chance to show their talent to one of the largest business and buying audiences possible. There’s always a fab variety of global style and it is always the most enjoyable show for me.

This season the Ones to Watch included Angel Chen, J Moon, Kim Stevenson and Minju Kim. First up was Angel Chin, a chinese label published in fashion magazines such as Vogue and growing a huge following. Her designs are based on her own eccentric character, with tons of colour, clashing patterns and different fabrics. I feel like there were definitely fairytale vibes in this! Definitely not your every day look, but totally creative and so enjoyable to watch.

Next up was the geometric heaven of J Moon – I REALLY loved this collection and it was the most similar to my personal style that I saw whilst at Fashion Week this February. Although J Moon owes her inspirations to trying out new shapes and fabrics, there is just something about this collection which I feel is beautifully retro. It reminded me of the block colour and box shapes of the 1960’s, and is what I would consider to be the most ready to wear of the collections I saw.

Third was Minju Kim’s collection. This collection saw a lot of exaggerated shapes – think extreme curves, oversized dresses and coats, and huge peplums. There was also tons of different textures in this one and each design in the collection was totally different from the last. Another interesting ‘one to watch’… Haha!

Last but by no means least was Kim Stevenson. A local gal (well, London based!) Kim’s collection is inspired heavily by Native American culture, with lots of denim and this time with an emphasis on headwear! A fan of a good hat myself, I enjoyed watching this collection too, and although I LOVE appreciating fashion from all over the world, it’s fun to see what those a little closer to home can do as well.

After taking everything in, it was back to the press lounge to take everything in and start writing up my blog notes. After a quick chill out and freshen up, I was whisked off by Vita Coco to take some photos with their photographer(s)! We took some fancy Outfit of the Day pictures (which I am hoping to share with you later this week) and some cool polaroid shots outside the Freemasons Hall.

Over all, it was a really exciting but tiring day. Fashion Week always takes it out of me – I used to think it was the journey from Manchester that did it, but it seems all bloggers are in a consensus as to how exhausting it really is. However, I wouldn’t miss it for the world and I thank Vita Coco for sending me along this season. Here’s to many more!

…Oh, and then I left fashion week to get some pizza. I think that says a lot about me as a person!
