Festive Afternoon Tea, Radisson Blu Edwardian Manchester

Hey kittens, so last week I was delighted to be invited along to visit one of my favourite places in Manchester, the Radisson Blu Edwardian Manchester in the beautiful old Free Trade Hall building. Having visited a couple of times, I love it more every time I visit and can never speak highly enough of the staff or customer service – despite it being pretty darn 5* posh, everyone is so welcoming and can’t do enough for you. On this visit – my birthday, actually! – I was lucky enough to be sampling some of their Festive Afternoon Tea. Yum!

The afternoon tea took place inside Opus One, one of their bars and restaurants. It is such a beautiful bar – the main area is inside a beautifully lit, and very festive looking, glamorous space. At the moment, it is all decked out with Christmas decorations, wreaths and fairy lights, which just looks beautiful. The icing on the cake for my visit were the carol singers – specially drafted in for singing at festive afternoon teas, a fantastic choir serenaded us with classic Christmas tunes. A beautiful side order for tea!

I chose to sit in Opus Reserve, a small yet comfortable bar area that looks out onto the rest of Manchester with comfortable seating and cosy decor – it’s a lot lighter than the main restaurant. I was welcomed with a glass of champagne and my choice of any tea or coffee (I went for boring breakfast – standard but my favourite!) and a choice of either Festive Afternoon Tea or Gentleman’s Afternoon Tea. As I was with a guest, we went for one of each to swap and share – and there was definitely enough for both of us to delve into!

The Festive Afternoon Tea consisted of traditional mini scones with jam and clotted cream, as well as festive cinnamon scones, mini Christmas cakes, chocolate puddings an double layered finger sandwiches (with the crusts cut off, of course). The modern Gentleman’s Afternoon Tea also included traditional scones, but this time with a different range of sandwiches and instead of extra sweet treats, some canape takes on British dinners; these included, mini fish and chips, mini yorkshire pudding and beef and mini pork pie. As a sweet lover, I preferred the Festive Afternoon Tea, but if your date is into savory, then I would definitely say to give the ‘Gentleman’s’ version a try for something a little different to the traditional. Both of these cost £18.95 including unlimited tea and coffee refills.
It was an absolute pleasure to spend my birthday at the Radisson Blu Edwardian in Manchester – I felt like a princess! The staff couldn’t do enough for me and even listened when I told them it was my birthday, and brought me out a special little mince pie with a candle in it! Usually after eating lunch, I scoot off pretty quickly, but that day I made the most of it and indulged in the tea refills and relaxed in the beautiful atmosphere – I didn’t feel pressure to leave at all and in fact, the staff kept asking if there was anything else they could do for me!
If you want to treat a loved one this Christmas, I can whole-heartedly recommend a Festive Afternoon Tea experience. Or, book ahead for next year! They’re pretty in demand and it would be such a shame to miss out on this wonderful opportunity to treat your friends or family with a once in a lifetime afternoon tea.
