Getting Out and About and Staying Safe

It’s pretty difficult out there right now, huh? Recent Government restrictions have limited people’s movements and it is encouraged that people stay home whenever possible in order to slow down the spread of Coronavirus and to protect the healthcare system. I get it, it’s for the good of all of us and our NHS and I’m in full support of it. Of course, there are times where people will need to leave the house whether this is for food shopping, picking up medicine or a daily form of exercise (although I must admit I haven’t had to venture out yet and have been living off last month’s ASDA delivery and freezer food like it’s going out of fashion, or well, date!).

Full disclose: this picture was taken prior to lockdown. I 100% haven’t worn anything other than loungewear and pyjamas in the past 3 weeks.

Leaving the Home

It is essential that people know how to stay safe whenever they do leave the home so that they can protect their own health, those that they live with and the community as a whole. While people are urged to stay at home whenever possible, it is also important to understand the importance of getting outside and enjoying fresh air – this is particularly true for those that live alone and/or are working from home with no garden to enjoy. Just be sure that you are abiding by the Government’s restrictions and following the advice outlined below.

Keep Your Distance

First, you need to make sure that you keep your distance from people. You can leave the house with others in your household but you should try to keep a minimum distance of 2 metres from those around you.

Be Vigilant On Public Transport

It is best to avoid public transportation but this is not always possible for some. If you do need to use the train or another form of public transport, you must be vigilant and try to travel during a quiet time and try to keep your distance as above. You could also look to book a ticket online, such as a train to London so that you do not have to spend extra time at the station.

Wash Your Hands

You should also wash your hands as soon as you return home from being outside as instructed by the Government and for at least 20 seconds. While you are outside, you should avoid trying to touch any kind of surface that you do not have to and also try to avoid touching your face while outside (or at home).

The Government lockdown is a worrying time for all and it is vital that people listen to what has been enforced so that they can abide by the law while also protecting public health and the healthcare system. Follow the above advice and keep a close eye on any updates from the Government so that you can stay safe and help to fight the battle on Coronavirus.

Remember, wherever you can, stay at home. Stay safe. Save lives. Protect the NHS!
