With December well and truly upon us, I feel absolutely no shame in loading up on hearty, wholesome food and on Sunday I met my gal pal at the Blackhouse Grill On New York Street, Manchester, to do just that. Located right between Piccadilly and St Peter’s Square, it is in a super handy central location in Manchester City Centre, making it the perfect mid-shopping stop off for Sunday lunch, or dinner before a night out in town.

Famous for their Grill menu – particularly renowned for premium quality steak – Grill on New York Street are a sister restaurant of the famous Grill on the Alley, which opened in July 2006 and quickly became a stalwart of Manchester’s cutting edge culinary scene. With an updated menu for Winter 2017, however, we decided to make the most of something different and try out some of their new items.

We decided to start with some olives and the New In Thai Fishcakes to share. Made of salmon and bringing fusion flavours, the Thai Fishcakes were fresh, delicious and the perfect way to start a meal with a glass of prosecco. With a whole range of delicious starters to try from, it was hard to choose, but I would definitely recommend the fish cakes if you are looking for something light and tasty to whet your appetite.

For our mains, we also decided to stray from the traditionall grill menu and try some of Blackhouse Grill on New York Street’s new Winter Warmers. My friend chose the new Golden Beetroot and Avocado Salad (£8.50), which was served with a walnut dressing. It was a generous portion and I am told it was delicious! We also had a side of oven cut chips to share, because well, do you even go out if you don’t get chips?

I, however, went for something a little more hearty and chose the Halloumi & Mixed Vegetable Kebab (£13.50). As a massive fan of halloumi, I just couldn’t pass up the chance to try this – and it did not disappointed! Servied with halloumi, courgette, pepper, mushroomon a bed of mixed pulse with tortillas, it came with an exotic touch of flavour with sour cream & Cholula Hot Sauce. It was delicious and a relatively ‘healthy’ alternative for me yet totally filling.

Over all, we had a lovely Sunday lunch at Blackhouse Grill on New York Street in Manchester. It was a beautiful, festive location and the food was absolutely delicious. The staff were friendly and attentive and helped recommend their favourite dishes to us, especially helpful when you are looking to try something a little different to the traditional grill menu. I would wholeheartedly recommend checking out Grill on New York Street if you are looking for somewhere for a pre- Christmas dinner.
