#MCRFW Day 3: Final Day Designers

Hey kittens! As y’all have seen from my constant tweeting and Instagram updates – sorry, not sorry! – I had an absolute blast at Manchester Fashion Week this week. I enjoyed it so much I attended every day, to be sure to fill you in on all the info. In fact, I loved it so much, I’ve already written about the first two days (read about Friday night here and about Saturday night here), so here’s my final instalment; Day 3, Sunday 20th April.

Although called Manchester Fashion Week (actually, rebranded #MCRFW now!) it was more of a long weekend, which at first I was confused about but actually it turned out to just be long enough. Waking up on Easter Monday, I was glad it was a bank holiday and all the fashion fun was over – despite having an amazing time, I was almost as tired as when I visited London Fashion Week AW15 in February… And that’s saying something!

The first collection: Get Clobbered

I wasn’t sure exactly what to expect from the Sunday night as Friday night and Saturday night had pretty clear descriptions. Good Friday, launch night, was all about emerging talent and graduate designers – names we hadn’t really heard of before and more creative designs – with Saturday being a little more mainstream, bringing independent online stores and boutiques. For Sunday, there wasn’t really a description, and upon the start of the shows it turned out to be an eclectic mix of both nights.

The night held the same format as Friday and Saturday: doors opened an hour before the shows were scheduled to start to allow time to look around stalls and exhibitors, an intro chat from MCRFW host JSKY and then the shows, which started fashionably late on all days! Unlike Friday, there was also a short interval in between the shows as there were quite a lot of brands to get through.

Unusual summer look by Laundry Boutique

I enjoyed watching some of my favourite brands – again, a couple you’ve seen on here before – including Laundry Boutique, Fabric Boutique and IL2L. I have to say, Laundry Boutique were my favourites of the night; their items are always on point. They constantly have unusual pieces (not the same old stuff every other online shop has) from different designers, with fresh new prints and their items are so affordable considering the quality. I already have my eye on a number of pieces from their new collection, including a stunning shirt and trouser floral two piece that would look gorgeous with a pair of sandals on a summer holiday.

As well as more mainstream fashion collections like the above, the third night also had it’s fair share of creative, flamboyant designs, too. An emerging local designer, Rufflee, showed his latest creation which was all over the current two piece trend, which y’all know I love. However, instead of the standard co-ord sets, he was the first designer I’ve seen to show cape crop tops and rara skirts in the same set, which although I would never be brave enough to wear, did look pretty cute on the female models. On the male models, however, I was less keen and to be honest, not sure a crop-top-cape is gonna take off with the lads. But, different, at least!

However, there were also a few more collections I wasn’t as keen on. Despite clearly having an audience, there were a few more printed T-shirt brands (how many do we need?). Similar, a sportswear brand, Muscle In, showed their collection in the first half. Now, at this point I think we all pretty much know my stance on exercise – none at all – so I was less than enthusiastic about this. Despite this, the brand proved to be one of the most entertaining of the night, with some “sports modelling” going down: if you aren’t sure what this is, think gym-robot-build-male-models pouting with various “sports poses”, including skipping, spinning basket balls and throwing punches. It gave Sally, Irena and I the proper giggles – hard to control when you’re on the front row!

The finale of the night was Adam Bayyat which looked pretty spectacular to be honest, with extravagant carnival costumes made from unusual materials. I have to admit, I did leave before this as I was absolutely exhausted and all fashioned out. At that point, having given my support for the full weekend, I did duck out a little early but I’m sure the guys at MCRFW understood. It was also no reflection on my opinions of the night – over all, I had a wonderful weekend and enjoyed my time at MCRFW very much. Without a doubt, the Saturday night was my favourite due to the range of designers on show, although I would have preferred an earlier start or staggered show times to cut down on time a little more. In conclusion, I am so proud of the MCRFW for pulling it off. Although not directly involved with them at all – I’m only one of their bloggers – I am so happy that after all our support they’ve managed to pull off Manchester Fashion Week 2014 at last and I am delighted to be able to tell y’all about it. I only hope you’ve enjoyed reading about it as much as I’ve loved attending!

Time’s almost ran out to nominate in the Company Style Blog Awards. If you haven’t already, I’d love if you could please nominate me as Best Fashion blog – thank you.
