One Essential Item For Each Season Of The Year

Finding the right garment for the day depends on a lot of different factors: where you’re going, what you’re doing, and who you’ll be seeing, for a start. It also depends, to a large extent, on the time of year. That strappy dress that looks amazing in July’s sunshine might be harder to make work as the rain falls in mid-February. While we talk about seasons a lot in fashion, we usually mean in terms of events such as New York Fashion Week or similar. However, an awareness of the season in terms of the Earth’s journey around the sun is also important.

Different people have different tastes, and personal style is a thing, so every wardrobe should be its own story. At the same time, it’s hard to disagree that there are some garments that are just right for the time of year, and we’re going to look at one for each of the seasons – from Winter to Autumn – here.

Warm woollen Winter wonders

It’s been suggested that 2021 is going to bring a Beast from the East, which means that however chilly you’re feeling right now, it could yet get worse. That’s all the more reason why it’s vital your options include a timeless classic: a cosy wool coat. Not only is it common sense when the elements are out to get you, it’s also a versatile piece. You can pair it with a casual sweater and jeans for a quick trip out, or some warm flannel trousers under a knitted dress if you need to look a bit more put-together.

Spring forward (fashion-forward, that is…)

Particularly if you’re in the UK, the onset of spring does not necessarily mean that it’s time for warm-weather clothes. It’s not unknown for snow to fall in March, so it’s not yet slinky dress time. However, with hedgerows beginning to spring into life, it’s certainly not a bad time for a floral blouse which can work in all weathers. Again, these are a dream to make outfits from – they work with leggings and boots, or a smart skirt equally well.

Summer sunshine

As the mercury rises, you’re likely to find that just sitting still can be uncomfortable – recent summers have seen the temperature climbing high into the 30s and threatening to go higher. You absolutely must have something – ideally somethings – flowy so you can cool down a little. A key item is a crisp white dress, because you do not want to be absorbing any more of that sun than you absolutely must. A simple sandal is about all you need to accessorise this, although if you’ve got long hair, tying it back with a white band will stop you sweltering.

In the Autumn days

Finally, as the leaves start to fall and the nights get longer, you’ll need to retire the warm-weather options for something more sensible, but not any less stylish. Autumn is many people’s favourite season, with trees turning into a riot of colour, and those colours look fantastic as a chunky-knit sweater. Combining beautifully with trousers and ankle boots, every wardrobe should have a minimum of three sweaters like this!
