Outfit of the Day: Androdynous Chic

Hey kittens!

This is a very, very different look for me.

If you know me well, you will know I studied Political Scienes at university and as a result have admired the different way gender is played out in every day life, whether this be through actions, speech or even fashion.

The way a person dresses is very purposeful, whether it is a conscious decision or not. The clothes you wear represent who you are and a result you can become a thousand different people, or forever stay true to your one self. For me, fashion gives me the oppurtunity to experiment. Although I think my personal style reflects a sharp, strong femininity that I take pride in and use in power with my feminist views, I have always admired the mystery of an andyodynous look.

Today’s Outfit of the Day was my first attempt at andyodyny and a quirky take on the metrosexual masculinity of today’s generation. Although I know the look could have been taken a lot further, I am happy with this for a first taste and despite the fact that I would not wear this look on an every day basis, I am proud that I tried something different.

These faux leather leggings* from Dresses For Breakfast are so durable and adaptable that they were perfect for this look. Although I wear them a lot with shirts and blazers for events and nights out, the way they look in this style is completely different and I think that is credit to them. You might not be able to tell on the picture, but they are of fantastic quality – they are so thick and really could be classed as trousers in that sense. They are very different from Disco Pants (and their cheaper alternatives) as they don’t have that synthetic sheen; these really look like real leather, but as a vegetarian, I can wear them safe in the knowledge that they contain no animal ingredients. A bargain at £15, I would reccomend to anyone wanting to join the “pleather” trend that is huge this Autumn/Winter 2012 – find them on Twitter here or Facebook here.

Similarly, this cropped blazer* from Sugar Lips is totally adaptable to different looks. It is perfect for when I have a meeting at work and yet can also dress up any casual outfit, which is one of my favourite ways to wear blazers. I wasn’t a fan of blazers until this year and now I cannot stop wearing them. I wear them both for work and almost every day casually – they’re the perfect item for looking smart yet casual and I think they’re perfect for all the fashion and PR events I attend.

Y’all know I love accessories but I think more than ever, they are important in this look. I wanted to mimic a tuxedo-esque look and this vintage bowler hat really helps to do so. I accessorised this silk peter pan collar shirt from Primark by adding a piece of ribbon and tying into a pussy-bow tie, to add a bit of quirky and young masculinity to the look. However, I still wanted to keep some feminity so added these silver Hamsa earrings* from Lily King – be sure to find them here.

To complete the look I wore these amazing white creepers* from Cloggs – my favourite shoe shop. I don’t wear creepers often but I love the way these white ones look – they remind me of jazz and swing singers, yet also fit perfectly into the creeper trend which has been huge in 2012. They tie in perfectly with the monochrome of this look and add to my black tie feel.

So, kittens, what do you think of this androdynous look?
