Outfit of the Day: Great Gatsby Glamour

Dress: Cherry Cherry – Headband: Market – Shoes: Ravel – Earrings: Market

Hey kittens, how’s your week going so far? It’s pretty dull in Manchester again; we had summer for a couple of weeks and now I guess it’s back to normal. Ah well, it’s more sun than we usually get up t’north.

Today’s Outfit of the Day is designed to inject a little bit of glamour into your midweek blues – well, mine at least! This is another post in my Vintage Outfit of the Day series – for more, check out the rest of my posts here. With the release of the much anticipated Great Gatsby film earlier in the year, the 1920’s has dominated Spring/Summer 2013 collections. “Art Deco” is the inspiration on the fashion elite’s lips this summer and although it can sometimes be a little tricky to get right, I’ve found a simple way to wear this trend over on my lil’ corner of the internet.

Of course, the main event in this outfit is this gorgeous mint green maxi dress from Cherry Cherry. As y’all know, I love a local brand and will always champion Mancunian brands, so I was so happy to find out that Cherry Cherry are from my neck of the woods! Although it could be dressed very differently, this Tessa maxi dress made working the Great Gatsby style pretty easy – it oozes glamour and even comes with it’s own thin glittery gold belt to since in ya waist and flatter an hourglass figure.

The dress is full of lovely little surprise details that really help to give the look a subtle vintage feel, such as the retro, pastel colour and soft pleats. Plus, instead of being overtly revealing, the belt helps to create a classic feminine shape on almost any figure (and if not, that’s cool too!). Also, the deep back is the perfect way to show a little skin whilst remaining sophisticated – I actually prefer to leave a little to the imagination!

When trying to create a vintage look specific to a time era, accessories are key. The type of jewellery you choose to wear can totally alter the time period you’re going for. For a classic 1920’s look, you’ve gotta go with a headpiece – no flapper girl-esque look is complete without a little head gear! For this look, I chose a monochrome headband I picked up from Manchester market and set my hair to the side. For an added injection of glamour, I popped this dangly pearl earring on the side of my face that was bare to even the look out a little (this was also from Manchester market). For shoes, I kept things simple with some nude court shoes from Ravel – I didn’t want to distract from the dress.

So kittens, what do you think of this 1920’s inspired look? Are you surprised how affordable and easy a vintage look can be? Leave me a comment below and let me know!
