Hey kittens, it’s still pretty hot here in Manchester and I’m getting used to venturing out with bare legs. I can’t believe that we’re actually experiencing a summer and I’m actually not expecting it to rain every day – how did this happen?!
Today’s Outfit of the Day is a little different from my usual formalities; instead, it’s cool, cute and casual. Sometimes we need to step outside of our comfort zones to reassess what our personalities are actually like – it’s too easy to get stuck in a rut – and fashion, for me, is the answer to that.
Trying out new styles and different items helps me step back and take a look at myself, which is what this look really helped to do. The combination of bright colours, flat pumps and soft shapes sent me back a couple of years and reminded me of some looks I used to rock but have now turned away from. It was a good exercise to kick off the heels, the blazer and the dress and remind myself that I’m still young and I’m allowed to have fun with what I wear. Heck, we only get this life once, we might as well enjoy it!
Fashion doesn’t always have to be serious and this is what I love so much about this look. I love the way this denim pinafore from Heart & Bows at Ark reminds me of my childhood – it’s almost school girl-esque (without being creepy). The soft, white polkadots make this a little more unusual than all the dungarees and pinnies floating about at the moment. There’s no doubting that this trend is HUGE this SS13, but as ever, Ark‘s take on the look is a little more unusual than other’s.
To keep some element of my usual style, I popped a shirt underneath the pinnie instead of a T-Shirt or, horror of horrors, a crop top! This blouse is also from Hearts & Bows at Ark and the quality of it is really impressive. Although I wore a vest top underneath it to keep my modest (what a prude, eh?) it’s chiffon material is not so sheer that you would be bearing all without one. The button detail is also unusual, fastening down the back to allow the embroidered detail to take over the front. So pretty and quickly becoming a go-to item for my summer wardrobe.
For accessories, I wanted to keep the outfit looking young and fresh – I like to think a little pop-art, Alice In Wonderland inspired. My Keds were the obvious choice for shoes, with their block colour fitting in perfectly with the bold primary colours in this look and adding Ebay‘s finest ankle socks to keep the look young. They’re also so comfortable, which is a bonus. To finish, I popped in a blue hair flower and my red heart-shaped glasses (also sourced from Ebay) to stay within my colour theme.
