Outfit of the Day: Tartan Trousers & Maxi Coat

Hey kittens! Okay, there’s no getting away from it, I admit it, it’s officially autumn now. The nights are drawing in, the rain is getting heavier (typical Manchester) and the weather is getting cooler. Although, gotta admit that it’s no where near as cold as it usually is – in fact, I was even a little warm wearing this coat… I know!

Today’s Outfit of the Day video and blog post is my first true delve into Autumn. Although my last OOTD was definitely making it’s way into the Autumnal trends, I feel like this look is very “September” (how *fashion* of me!) and I’ve taken on the three of biggest trends of this Autumn/Winter 2013: tartan; maxi coats; military.

I have to say, I’ve really embraced the tartan trend already. It’s not often I absolutely love exactly what’s “in fashion” – it sounds silly to say that on a fashion blog, but I don’t feel my posts are hugely trend-driven, but more my personal style. However, tartan really seems to fit with the themes I already love; it’s kinda vintage, kinda edgy and usually includes a lot of red, which is my personal favourite colour to wear. These trousers from Missi Clothing, a Manchester wholesale retailer, are such an easy way of wearing the trend –  you only have to pop on a black top and you’re done!

Speaking of the top, this OMG Fashion vest top is a little different to the usual cotton ones, it’s chiffon which is quite nice. I mean, I can’t big it up too much – it is just a black vest top – but its quite nice to have something a little different, especially when it’s to be a staple item in your wardrobe. It’s also not quite warm enough to wear this vest on its own at the moment, which is where this gorgeous maxi coat comes in…

Maxi coats are huge in the style stakes for this Autumn in the and they’re a warm enough trend to be practical for Winter, too. Oh, how I love it when a plan comes together! Oversized coats have been all over the shop (literally, geddit?) and were seen at the latest London Fashion week a couple of weeks ago as well. This means that they’re set to continue to be a big (bun dun tish!) item throughout next Spring as well, and this khaki green colour block coat from Great Plains is perfect to incorporate the military trend too.

To continue the military theme, I chose to wear my chunky platform heels from So You Shoes/Shubox. These shoes are massive – like, seriously, massive heels. I’m not ashamed to say I fell over more than a couple of times whilst breaking these in, but actually, despite the biggest platform ever, these heels are actually pretty comfortable, I think it must be the wedge heel that does it. The studs are a great military detail, too!

Finally, I accessorised the outfit with my Marc B clutch bag, a very different way to wear this bag than my last outfit I wore it in, but obviously the deep red is the perfect compliment to my trousers. The gold hardware on it also lends itself nicely to my jewellery choices, wearing my black geode ring I picked up whilst on a work trip in Brussels. I finished the look with this chunk lioness necklace from Primark – fierce!
