Planning A Socially-Distanced Staycation

Travelling abroad right now is difficult – there are still many travel restrictions in place and many of us don’t want to self-isolate for two weeks when we get back. A staycation could be an alternative for those that still want to get away but don’t want to leave the country.

Of course, with the virus still going on, you need to be careful of where you go. Some of us may not feel comfortable staying in a hotel or going on a city break. Fortunately, there are many ways to still enjoy a staycation while socially distancing. Here are just a few options to consider.

Rent a holiday home

Renting out a holiday home with friends or family could allow you to still stay within your bubble. There are countless holiday rental options across the UK from seaside apartments to countryside cottages (and even stately homes and castles).

Some holiday homes have amenities such as hot tubs and even saunas for those craving a luxury break. A growing number of holiday homes are now dog-friendly, so you could even consider taking your dog if you’ve got one.

Go camping

Staying in a tent isn’t everyone’s idea of a holiday, but it’s a cheap and reliable option for those on a tight budget. Campsites have been opening up again, but not all of them have facilities such as showers and toilets open. This is worth looking into before you book anywhere.

Those that fancy an adventure could even consider wild camping (not staying on a campsite!). While technically ‘banned’ across most of the UK, there are some places where it is legal such as Dartmoor National Park. There’s also a high tolerance towards wild camping in The Lake District, providing you clear up after yourself. These could be stunning locations to pitch up a tent.

Take a caravan/motor home

Caravans and motor homes are practically homes on wheels allowing you to travel wherever you want. If you fancy some intense travelling, you could consider a road trip – stopping off at a new location each night. A few great expeditions to try could include a tour of the Scottish Highlands or a tour of the Welsh coast.

There are companies that allow you to rent your own caravan or motor home, but you may prefer to buy one. Different caravans and motor homes are likely to be better suited to different types of travel – if you’re planning to venture off the tarmac, you may want to look into choosing the best off road caravan. You should also consider whether water and electricity are a necessity.

Go glamping

Glamping is a more luxurious version of camping that has become very popular in the UK. Instead of bringing your own tent, you may find a campsite that has its own fixed luxury tents (including yurts and treehouse accommodation). These tents may have amenities such as electrical sockets and actual beds, while still possessing the cosiness of a tent. It’s a slightly wilder version to renting a holiday home.
