Moving house is exciting but it can also be a long and tedious process. By the time you move into your new property, chances are you’re totally drained and burned out after going through every emotion imaginable. From the long process of saving for a deposit to waiting on solicitors, if you’re buying a new build home you might even have to wait for it to be built! So by the time you get through those doors, you want it to be plain sailing from there. Here’s how you can make it happen.
If this will be your first proper home then chances are you’ll need to buy just about everything to kit it out. This can be expensive and a long process so starting early is a smart move. Write an extensive list of everything you need, and buy a few items each week to store away. By the time you come to move you’ll already have much of what you need. Think about everything from pots and pans to towels and bedding. You’ll need kitchen appliances, bedroom furniture, a vacuum cleaner and many other kinds of homeware. One thing to consider is your sofa, if you’re ordering from a made to order company then you’ll need to do this eight to ten weeks before you move in. Otherwise you’ll be without anything to sit on for months!
As well as home decor items, it’s also worth stocking up on your long life and non perishable grocery items if you have the space to store them. Everything from tins and cans to dried foods like rice and pasta can be picked up. Herbs and spices, tea, coffee, sugar, flour, cereal- when you move in you’ll already be pretty much kitted out. All you’ll need to do after moving in is one shop for fresh and shorter life items and you’re good to go. This first ‘stock up shop’ can be much more expensive than you might realise so this way again you can spread the cost. Keep an eye out for things like toiletries and cleaning products while they’re on offer too.
Few of us can live without the internet these days, and if you work from home or have to use the net for something important then it’s even more crucial that you’re not left without. Once you know your moving date, speak to your provider and see if they can have you up and running on that day. If not, you could consider purchasing a data bundle for your phone and tethering your laptop to it if you need to get online. Once your internet and tv are set up, strangely that’s when it really feels like you’re at home!
Do you have an upcoming house move? How are you preparing for it?
