Review: Introducing New Imperial Leather Foamburst
Hey kittens!
Do you ever have a brand that brings you instant comfort, that you know you can turn to without disappointment? Imperial Leather has always been a family favourite of mine, with Foamburst heading up our shower gel top 10. However, despite remembering it fondly (very romantic, I know), I hadn’t used it for a few years – until now! It was only when I was wondering where Foamburst had been all my life that I saw they had relaunched this week. Well, if that doesn’t warrant a review, I don’t know what does…
This week, Foamburst has relaunched with a slick, sexy new look. As a heritage brand (as old as 1978!) this could be a risk… But a risk worth taking! How can a shower gel be sexy, you ask? Well, take a quick look at the gorgeous bottles and you’ll see! The new packaging is a far cry from the white, reds and golds of the old Imperial Leather and instead resemble a new, female equivilant to Lynx. The bottles are now in an appropriate hourglass shape, not only handy for gripping in a wet shower, but somewhat resemble us ladies’ bodies too.
As y’all know, all us fashion and beauty bloggers are keen on aesthetics and the new look Foamburst do not disappoint. Each of the seven new scents come with a personalised colour-way to suit it’s personality. My favourite is the Bewitching Blackberry and Wild Fig; the deep purples, blacks and golds are a far cry from the white and red Imperial Leather packaging I remember from years ago. The packaging was never bad, but it’s just got a whole lot better – luxurious, pamper-party worthy and expensive looking whilst remaining affordable.
Whilst looking a lot more stylish and indulgent, the functionality of the product remains quite similar. Each bottle has the same aerosol style top, which is pressed down to emit a little shower gel. Now, this is where the product gets really interesting and works just as I remember. The body wash magically transforms from a smooth gel to a literal foam burst…
I’ve had so much fun testing out these seven different scents and seeing if they vary in any way, but apart from the gorgeous scents, they all work in the classic Foamburst way. At first, the product sits on the skin as a clear gel, a lot more solid than traditional, runny shower gel and allowing you to aim a little better!
However, as soon as you add water or movement, the gel is immediately lathered up to a wonderful rich and creamy foam. I was pleased to see that although going through a dramatic rebrand, Imperial Leather have kept their signature formula. It really is a unique product and one that cannot be compared to anything else (at least, that I’ve found) and as a blogger who is always on the hunt for cheaper dupes, this really is a huge selling point.
Another thing us bloggers love is value for money, and what screams penny-pinching more than a multifunctional product? As I said before, I’ve had great fun playing around with the seven different scents and have been finding any excuse for using them. So, what are they good for? Besides their name sake of shower gel, these babies make for perfect shaving foam. Now, we’re all ladies here and I’m not afraid to talk about body hair. If you don’t choose to remove yours, that’s cool, but personally I like to shave my legs and these have been a perfect replacement for shaving gel. Now, I don’t need to take multiple bottles into the shower with me and, bonus, these smell a lot nicer!
After using each product a little, I’ve separated the scents into two main groups; the wake-up and go scents and the chill out and relax scents. In the former, we have Spicy Ginger and Orange, Uplifting Lime and Grapefruit, Rebalancing Green Tea and Jasmine and Moisturising Honey and Almond Milk. These have quickly become my morning shower saviours, with the properties in each of these based on invigorating your senses. I’ve also been trying these out as handwashes too, which, although pretty bubbly, they work well as. Funny how the colours reflect this!
My second group and the final three scents – Bewitching Blackberry and Wild Fig, Sweet Vanilla and Cherry Blossom and Bracing Bergamont and Sea Minerals – are my night time indulgences. These have become my little bit of pampering in my every day routine, helping me to unwind after work and relax before bed. As well as showers, I’ve also been using these in the bath. In fact, on the back of the bottle, it says in capitals to not use these as bubble bath – well, if that isn’t an invitation I don’t know what is! Although I technically can’t recommend this due to the warning, I’ve had no problems and they’ve made for very bubbly, sweet smelling and even moisturising baths (probably due to Imperial Leather’s SkinKind properties).
My favourite of the new seven scents has to be the Sweet Vanilla and Cherry Blossom – it is such a deep, sweet smell that I find myself turning to it over the rest. It also has just enough staying power that you’re left feeling subtly fresh and flowery after your shower, without smelling like you’ve smothered yourself in perfume and rolled about in body butter. Heralding themselves as “experts in fragrance“, Imperial Leather employ two of the ten acknowledged perfumers in the country – a little known fact, but it makes sense now! 20% of the UK’s sweet perfumery seems to be bottled up in these Foambursts.
Over all, I’ve been very impressed with the new look Foamburst and can see these little tubes of goodness becoming a permanent fixture on my shower shelf. Besides the luxurious new packaging (we all want to feel like we’re investing in a pamper product when we buy personal care items) and fancy names (granted, a little OTT) the product itself is a winner with me. What other wash product literally transforms from a gel to a soapy lather? I’d highly recommend you try Foamburst if you haven’t already, it really is a unique beauty product and one with a fashionable new look.
Great blog! I love Imperial Leather products and swear by their foamburst – really can't get enough of it.
